I am very glad to finally join this very interesting forum. Apparently the internet is good for something
I consider myself a beginner in the flamenco field (have been playing classical spanish guitar for 3,5 years, flamenco exercises for a few months). I have listened to flamenco music for longer than that, speak decent spanish and am located in Germany.
Since I went to Granada two years ago I am currently thinking about going either to Cadiz or Jerez for two weeks to take some guitar lessons and enjoy the weather, atmosphere, naturaleza and night-life.
Does anybody on this foro know a good teacher in Cadiz, or is it necessary to go to Jerez (El Carbonero for example)? How do the two cities differ? I am really looking forward to your replies and hope to be able to provide some useful info in the future as well.

i am sure there are alot of great teachers in cadiz, from jerez i would recommend Jesús Agarrado (El Guardia), Perkin Jero and el Carbonero.
i took lessons with all three for a wk, (dont know how my hands were able to keep up) but man did i get a tonne of material to work on. jerez has a good feel about it and like cadiz the people are very friendly and helpful.

I would love to go to Cadiz too for a while, but when I asked here on the Foro I was told by Sean - who lives there - that because the unemployment rate is so high there that there's really not much actually going on there in the way of flamenco teachers etc. because they work/reside in the bigger cities or in Jerez and Huelva.

Thanks for your replies so far. Cadíz seems to be the more spectacular (peninsula) location, which is why I am wondering if anybody knows of a way to get in touch with a teacher there. A little off-topic, but if staying in Jerez, is there a good connection to the sea/beaches? It is about 20km after all.

In Jerez, the big 3 are Carbonero, Luis Balao, and Fernando Moreno. Along with already-mentioned Periquin Jero, his brother Antonio Jero, arguably the better guitar player of the two is married to the great cantaora Chiqui de Jerez, so you might get some cante accompaniment possibilites from them as well.

Thank you again for the info. I think Nino Jero and Chiqui are fantastic, but for the time being way beyond my ability (would love to hear them perform though). El Carbonero is probabply the best choice for me (especially since I don´t want to bring my guitar for just two weeks).
