Alegrias in G?

I have heard that Javier Molina invented/composed/played Alegrias in G (major and minor), and that Manolo de Huelva played this too.

Does anyone know if anyone else has played/recorded Alegrias in this key and/or developed it at all?

Any references to recordings and/or transcriptions?

In G? Only one chord? How can you play an Alegrias with just one chord? Im not a music harmony expert... so which chords belong to G. I mean the counter chord you use all the time during compas..? C? Like Cantina?

Alegria in G means an Alegria whose scale starts at G and ends at G:
G A B C D E F# G

Typical cords would be 1st position (tonic) G Major, 4th position (subdominant) C major, 5th position (dominant) D Major.

Canitna: C D E F G A B C
Cords: C Major, F Major, G Major

"Alegrias in G" simply refers to the key that it is in – it doesn't mean that you only play the one chord. Any Alegrias primarily utilizes three chords – A typical Alegrias in A uses A Major – D Major – and E Seventh. So Alegrias in G would use G Major – C Major – and D Seventh. Cantina is simply Alegrias in C, and thus uses C Major – F Major – G Seventh.

Cantiñas can be in any key. It's the generic name for all the cantes that sound like alegrías (alegrías, romeras, caracoles, mirabrás, etc.) and it's also the name given to a few specific cantes. Not all the flamencólogos agree on this, but the difference is that "alegrías" refers to three or four cantes that are based on the jota and "cantiñas" refers to everything else.

In any case, the important thing here is that it's wrong to think that cantiñas are always in C, the same way siguiriyas or bulerías por soleá can be in E instead of A.

It's Doit's fault, he said it first.

What? I just asked a question.... never stated anything!

Thats the problem with bureaucracy as with people who are a little bit too experienced with some particular theories... They loose themselves in details.

I just need a yes or no and one chord name to get happy.

so.... um..... does anyone have any references or sources of recordings or transcriptions of solo or accompanying alegrias, cantinas, mirabras, romeras, rosas, or other cantinas played in the key of G using the typical chords associated with the home chord of G such as D7 and C of any guitarists from Javier Molina, Manolo Huelva, Nino Ricardo, Sabicas and beyond.... please?!

Sorry Mark, I don't know of any. I've read that Javier Molina played in G but it's just a reference in a book with no further information. Maybe Esteban Sanlúcar. I'll certainly let you know if I come across anything.

ok, thanks. i will check out the sabicas and nino ricardo recordings, i have only heard short previews so far. thought there might be some old recordings of accompanying in this key as i remembered you saying that some early recordings of cante libre are played in different keys to the "usual" ones. i have a vague recollection of something to do with Pepe Martinez playing alegrias in G but can't remember if it was a transcription i saw or recording.
