Foro meet-up in Granada
This was fun a few days ago, Granada residents plus visitors - we had a really nice (and large) lunch in San Miguel Bajo, joined by some other friends and long-suffering partners, who get dragged to flamenco events on a regular basis
For me it was a first meeting with mi primo Estevan, and great to meet in person Adam and Anthony. But mine was a flying visit, and those guys were all hanging out and going to shows and guitar shops Next time I'm staying longer.

you wouldn't know it, but we had to take about 10 shots of the same picture because nobody could figure how to work their camera. lol.
here's another, i like ailsa's smile in this one.
magenta, i know a lot of places will shut down from july to the end of august. so you might miss out on a lot by going in august. plus, it's hot, and there's loooots of hills.
holyevil, there's some really awesome makers here. i moved apartment, but the small street i was on before literally had 4 guitars shops. i wont be getting anything for awhile though, very expensive!
the best ones i've tried so far were from manuel diaz and his two sons, and jesus bellido. estevan has an amazing jesus bellido with red cypress, which he plays very, very well.

The faces behind the forum! From top left Adam (ramparts), me (pimentito), anthony (at_leo), kate, Ailsa and Esteban at the begining of a very leisurely lunch. I grew a big curly mustache for the occasion. These guys have had a great time checking out the sacromonte and meeting up with guitarists and guitar makers.

LOL. when i went to go meet pimiento for the first time for a guitar lesson, i almost missed him because of the mustache. you need to put up some kind of warning or heads up, man.
Then Saturday was a fun night of cave-hopping - until all the Habichuela girls came into Pepe Luis Habichuela's cave and started playing tangos for two hours!
I was going to upload more pics but need to resize them all first and its just too nice a day to be sat on computer any longer.
Ailsa was great to see you, thanks for making the effort to drive all the way over. We had a lovely day. It was fantastic that Estevan and Des were here for three weeks but it went all too fast. Anthony and Feda are still here as is Adam and we have been having fun filled flamenco nights. Went up the Sacromonte last Saurday to see a film about the Andalusi group Chekara and how they fuse with flamenco, fascinating and featuring many friends from Granada who all turned up at the bar afterwards. Then on to the Habichuela cave, photos coming soon, and afterwards Harodl and I carried on to the Peña Plateria as there was a concurso for La Union happening here, leaving the others in the caves playing away, soaking up the flamenco vibe and staying up all night.
Tonight Spanish football followed by el Niño de las Almendras

Hi , hope you all have a great time in Sanlucar. Personnaly I'm not up to that level yet but I'm travelling for a week's course in Taller Flamenco in Sevilla next week (on beginner's level). Those pics seem like a lot of fun and friendship. Hope to join you guys in some years in Sanlucar. All the best Pieter (desde Belgica)

That was insane...there were like 20 drop dead gorgeous gypsy girls sitting in front of me singing Tangos. I couldnt concentrate on anything.....
You mean you couldn't decide which one to concentrate on...? Man, that's tough! (P-L's wife is distracting enough...)
Now that I'm back in sticky old Toronto it's time for me to make one of those corny-but-true posts about "what a great thing this foro is, bringing people together, etc." because it really is true. I already knew Kate and Harold (thanks to the foro) and had met Pim briefly, but this time got to know him better and had the pleasure of meeting Adam and Anthony and his girlfriend, and mi prima Ailsa at last.
You never know what pleasant surprises a foro meeting can lead to; the music, wine and food are paramount, of course, but I would never have expected to find myself in a Spanish bar discussing Andalusian Neo-Platonists with an American astrophysicist.
Oh yeah? Well there's more of that coming in Sanlucar!
egad, so adam are you the astrophysicist or the Neo-Platonist...i'll bring the jurisprudence to the game. man, anne-marie van drecht will go mad for all this art-academic lingo
ORIGINAL: Estevan You'll get your money's worth with Matic - he's an actual philosopher!
Oh no, does that mean I have to know what I'm talking about now? I'm going to get right to work on achieving union with the great cosmic rondeña the planets are playing by virtue of their sublime harmonies before I get to Sanlúcar!
Henry - I'm the astrophysicist, but I also wake up most days wishing I were interesting enough to be a neo-Platonist.
Along Estevan's more serious/cheesy note, hanging out in Granada with Anthony, Ailsa, Steve, and their special friends was a ton of fun. Anthony, his girlfriend, and I had some especially random flamenco experiences around town. Now it's just me, Kate, Pimientito, and a herd of gitanos. le sigh. I guess catching Emilio at the Eshavira tonight will make all well again.
well, i'll be there on tuesday until sunday, and then off to jerez and finally sanlucar. look forward to meeting ye and hopefully we can have lunch or a few drinks.
