Oscar Herrero's DVDs are good for learning! I don' care how he sits there. Are we talking about cat-walk challenge or stuff for learning the fundaments of Flamenco?

yes, yes and yes, but you have to see that they all "get it done" with their technique (except Juan Martin maybe). They are not teaching things that are not capable of playing convincingly. So their technique is "enough" so to say. I also wouldnt copy everything what is on a video, even if its Nunez. I mean everybody has a different hand shape etc. You can only try it and see if it works (question of luck). Thats just IMO of course. You can see huge technical differences even among the best players, so its not about copying one good way IMO. "Many roads lead to Rome." as they say.
Arash, its not about sitting position. He is a bit hesitant, also in that video. Only some spots like 1:13 he is playing with force.

So is Rafael Riqueni for instance, or many others. You don't have to copy an Attitude or way of expression, if its not like you are. I thought we are talking about learning the basics (and in addition maybe some falsetas) from a Video. You can learn good things from all of them imo. Then play "without hesitation" or any way you like.

Sure for learning its all good, but i thought we were talking in general. Riqueni was playing with quite a force and buzzing on the Encuentro. Alot of it is sound, maybe he doesnt use much force at all, but the sound he achieves is perfect. Maybe Herrero would sound perfect too (for me) with a lower setup and more buzzing, who knows.

thank you for the advice Mark , much appreciated . I think that if they aren't the best then they aren't the worst therefor I won't follow them identically but I will learn what I don't know from them like I will pick the good stuff and leave the bad ones . they have some good explanations about techniques ,palos & compases .
u know I'm curious now to know what is your opinion about Aaron Gilmartin ( I don't really like him ).
but plz don't tell me that he's better than juan or graf coz then you'll really shock me .

Ok there might have been a misunderstanding here Deniz, cause i was talking about learning. I think the Method in Herrero's Paso a Paso Series is good for students (also Beginners) and quite extensive. But maybe people like the Falsetas of let say Chicuelo more (i do too), so tend to buy that DVD instead.

This guy really sells stuff of other guitarists??? I wonder about copyright claims... Anyway...Who wanna learn falsetas from an amateur who trys to copy, instead of the pro himself? The whole thing is somehow weird...

I might not even go that far.. on his Paso 3 DVD series, he covers Picado, but never once mentions the (important !?) technique of swinging the other finger up to dampen the string, to get that really great stacato sound.
Then he seems to try to offset that lack of technique with left hand 'minimal' movements, like it will have the same effect. I think this is part of his lack of 'bite'.
If I want to know what stacato picado sounds like, I'll listen to our own jg7238.. seriously. Way superior sound IMO. And general vibe overall.

well Mark Aaron has a 2 disk set called * learn to play flamenco guitar * including tangos, alegrias, soleares and bulerias and each piece of them could be played for the first time by an intermediate flamenco player in less than 15 minutes .

sean65, Thanks for the review. I recently borrowed that same one from a friend of mine who was not using it and I agree with your assessment of the material. Its very straightforward and he addresses the basics nicely. I can't speak to how it compares to other learning tools as I haven't used them but I feel this DVD does the job nicely when it comes to learning some basic Bulerias.
I've been attempting to incorporate some of his material into a Bulerias I'm working on currently.
