Diego del Morao's album approaches!!!

http://www.elcigala.com/diegodelmorao/

I cried in elation when I heard it. It looks, judging by the solea, that they have done a superb job with the recording etc... To me, he is the evolution of flamenco guitar, our next messiah, haha! Wooohoooo! A very happy day for me and for the foro, I'm sure. I know he has many fans here, young and old. In fact, I've not met anyone who didn't like him.

So far there has been one album I was able to listen to continuously for months.
Riqueni's Flamenco.
I think this will be the second one.

This is awesome. I'm completely obsessed with Diego's way of playing - this is what I've been most hanging out for in the world of flamenco - let's hope the album is not too over-produced, and the rawness of his playing remains intact. This is the best news I've heard in ages.

Aloysius.

Great news, we've been waiting a while for this one. The preview gives me hope that it won't be ruined by bad production.

I can't remember when I last looked forward to a record being released. I feel like a teenager!

This will be a good year for albums. Morao, Paco, Anton Jimenez,.. there are some more due to make an album IMO, like David Cerreduela, i will be curious about this one. Great year. Btw i made the experience that even years (0,2,4,6,8) just rock!

that's what i was thinking too. but i've heard these falsetas in the solea from montse cortes's la rosa blanca and other soleas too, i think. i guess the line between spb and solea can be a bit blurry sometimes.

It can. Especially if its a solea por buleria in E. Alot of stuff can be used in both styles, however I've found its alot easier to identify which is which, by listening to the rythm. Its the same, but Solea por Bulerias is generally faster, and the rythm is more pronounced.

3-------3--------
4-1--------------
5-1--------------

Hola Ricahrd,
Cuerdas is right, but start like this, so that you get that atmospheric feeling of Rondena :

0
0
6 - 4
8 (sorry mistake, its 8 not 7)
6
4

other chords are ...

0
0
3
6
4
2

or

0
0
3
2
4
0

and so on..... i am finding them out for myself, cause they are extremely cool, i may post as soon as finished

but yes, its in that key (Eb), here is an example:

Diego plays with no Capo though

I'm fairly certain this is in neither rondena nor normal tuning, but D A D F# A D, with the capo at the 1st fret. The two main chords are 000232 (looks like a D chord if it were normal tuning) and 340240.

There is slightly different version of this SPB on youtube where you can see the main chord fingerings quite clearly:

- Aloysius.

are you sure thats the proper tuning?
That D chord part you mentioned can also be done in normal tuning like this:
1-----2-----------
2---------3--------
3-1--------------
4-----2-----------
5----------------
6----------------

RE: Diego del Morao's album approach... (in reply to CuerdasDulces

Hey, dudes. Aloysius called it. It's in 'open D', in folk guitar parlance, although one might not use that nomenclature here because it's not in the key of D.

...Massive sound. Maybe I will get to writing more of his stuff down some day but I haven't transcribed anything in ages, partly because of the tedium. Although I have to say it would be cool to be the official Diego del Morao album transcriber, however ambitious that is. Lots of stuff is already lifted though.

By the by, if any of you are on FaceBook, there is a great fanpage that my Parisien friend Anatole started for Diego. Since, as you can tell, I'm nuts over all things Morao, I've contributed a lot to it, compiled lots of good links to his appearances on YouTube, both audio and video, and we've posted the pro photos we could find and there are even some fan pics, if you're in to this sort of thang. Those who aren't registered on facebook probably won't be able to see this site but here goes: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=270034500642&ref=ts

It would be nice if he had a good website with a definitive list of all his recorded collaborations etc... I doubt CigalaMusic will come through on that; it seems like the Spanish always have better things to do than properly represent individual flamenco artists online.

Gonna throw a party when the album drops. Still waiting for the first person who isn't drooling for Diego's toque. Do you dare reveal yourself? LOL

oops , aloysius is right.
man, i totally forgot about this video, i saw it a while back.

i wondered why i can't get it sound exactly like him, whatever i do
anyway, good news, cause its a bit easier now
my hands were getting destroyed by the chords which i "created" without that tuning lol
