Emilio Maya
Temple

2004 Andalamusica / CDJ 144

– Ralf Bieniek

Kate,
Bernd is a German Flamenco aficionado who posts from time to time on FT.
I've known him for a couple of years now.
He's a really nice guy, very friendly and has helped me translate some stuff.

I'm sure he'll be happy to help.

cheers

Ron

OK i'll do my best here. Unfortunately the author choose a very pictoresque language that may or may not be translatable, we shall see.

"Emilio Maya, flamenco guitarist from granada, born in 1963, took his time. The virtuoso has for years been producing magiccally excellent sounds out of his hermanos Conde. He accompanied singers such as Enrique Morente or Carmen Linares, worked with dancers like Antonio Canales and Juan Andres Maya, helped with a BBC production about the legendary Miles Davis, was often-requested accompanist for smaller studio productions and all who took guitar lessons from him do not onlz appreciate him as a super musician full of refreshing playing enthusiasm but also as a [nice] human being. Already he has learned a lot from Paco de Lucia and Manolo Sanlucar, without copying though. And now has the good wine rested long enough. He has been given his time. It is now time to uncork him. Emilio Maya produced his first CD and officially presented it at the international "Festival de Musica y Danza" in Granada. It is an excellent production, with a tightly weaved web of sound and one hears that theres someone playing who didnt just come along to produce a CD, too. A legere, flowing Rumba leads us to the somnambulantly well played minera , where we are to be picked up by a buleria that speaks of the character of the man who grabs the bull by the horns (?). With his reminicence to the rocky area around ronda in the 6th title „Eshavira“, if not earlier, Emilio Maya certainly has us at his fishing rod. The Drill will certainly be decided in his favor [this doesnt make much sense in german either, probably some sort of fishing lingo].(For non-fishers: he drags us out and into his music).

Hope this helped.
Dan
