Foro Flamenco End of Decade List - C...

Ok, what was the craziest stuff or most interesting stuff or most eyebrow raising stuff to mark the end of the decade here on foro flamenco. I have been here since Dec 06 - god has it been that long! Three years wasted!

Lets each share something to mark the decade! Am I crazy? Good bad or the ugly. Or do we want to go down that road???? The ugly here is pretty damn ugly, but no worse than other forums to be honest. It is a fact of life!

For me, Jacinto's passionate defence of old school flamenco takes the cake!

I'm afraid I missed that, can it still be read?

RE: Foro Flamenco End of Decade List... (in reply to cathulu

I know that I said a lot of crazy stuff, did a lot of crazy things, the most of all was certainly joining the foro in the first place, but I can laugh about it all and reason that I am rather impulsive with my threads, and what I say. I click the ok button and it's on the foro, just like that.

Like this post, it's just a lot of frustration on the internet, and I have learned that you don't really have to care, because for me, nobody knows me quite like I know myself, and I forgive myself for being totally human and capable of strange behavior; although I may understand, those of you who do not, don't really know me anyway.

So have at it, I think this is a great thread! What the heck, I am smiling and I am not afraid to look, and, it doesn't matter anyway what anybody thinks. We are all strange to someone. And after all, if you can't except that openly there is no room to grow!
Gary
Thank you cathulu....

Aye...

There have been quite a few colourful characters over the period...

And a bit of an adventure in the last couple of years to get ForoFlamenco back into proper, degenerate ownership after losing it.

The "JM" and "What is Flamenco" type threads have been entertaining, with people foaming at the mouth and Googling for a tool they can use to kill someone on line...

Some great uploads too!

And Dominic's monkey pictures!

Long may it continue!

cheers,

Ron

Afraid not...

Jacinto, wanted all his "valuable material" taken down from the site since he was "writing a book" and wanted to use it for "original copy"and threatening Legal action. (Despite the fact that International Legal action will probably run for months or years and cost many $100,000's....not just a $50 letter from a back-street, disqualified solicitor fresh out of jail!)

Since Simon and Henry and myself were getting bombarded with complaints and threats of Law suits from the folk he had insulted in the course of his posts, it was decided that the best option was to delete it all for the sake of peace.

Despite the fact that he had no Legal leg to stand on...

Wasn't worth the agro of the ear bending and life's too short anyway.

BTW: EVERYTHING you write voluntarily to an Internet site Forum or Blog or whatever, is the property of the site and can be held there for all time.

So watch it!

In the same way that if you send a letter to the Editor, to be published in a newspaper....you can't suddenly next week change your mind and threaten the newspaper with Legal action unless it's withdrawn and all the copies tracked down and shredded.

Silly boy.

cheers,

Ron

I do not know how long has it been that i am here.
But the best so far was when somebody told stories about flamenco from their personal experience, stories about people, behaviours, the big names when we have met them etc. This is really valuable information.
For example... when i met Paco himself he told me.....or....Vicente himself thinks that......or that sort of thing
AAh and i always liked this face

I think the homosexual nonsense was really bad a while back, and I think that it created a kind of blight on the foro, which is not the time or the place for sexual preferences in my view.

What's to say, it's not intended to be funny and it's really not. It's a very serious dilemma when it can be read that way and it's not.

Though seeing as a lot of people enjoy that kind of conduct we have to be tolerant, but it's not intellectual, 'more like the primrose path all the way to blank sheets!

The most interesting stuff were the challenges.

Was the journey of the foro and the "evil" temporary admin of the "new foro flamenco" that went down the drain coz of very harsh censoring by the admin... in this decade? That was the most crazy thing that happened IMO.

Oh you mean Captain Bob almost wrecking the ship?
Yeah i think that was 2009 or 2008?
"Soundportparty in my patio" was enjoyable, im still thankful for Anders and Jason putting that up.
And the challenges beared some incredible playing. I wonder when the next one is? I feel there is a cante and an advanced challenge needs to be coming ....

Hmmm, I'm going to guess since Apr. 11 '05...lol

Top of the list for me was the incident last summer when the foro was closed by Bob and everyone was left to wander the internet aimlessly while Simon and Ron set up the foro using the old software. People went to a variety of sites including Todd's short lived "say whatever you want/no censorship" site, the GSI discussion board and Ramin's site.

Of course any of Doit’s posts would qualify, too.

let me add the Per Hallgren's photo series on the creating of a flamenco guitar, it was informative and enjoyable to me (btw, where's he gone?)

sure there were a few downs, some individuals who have trouble living in peace with others, but as time has proven they're all gone now...unfortunately some who should still be here are also gone or just lurking...

Maybe it is a bit unfair to quote this.
However, it was voluntarily written on this forum.

Original quote by Anthony about Prof.Dr.:

"his playing always made me think of the term 'spazz attack.' "

My personal favourite. Prof.Dr. was priceless anyway.

I saw a classical guitar he made advertised on a website for $8,000 USD. Maybe he's busy... It was a nice set of pics. I liked his homemade hygrometer, too.

Captain Bob banning people at the drop of a hat, that was BIG FUN

For me personally, winning the advanced challenge and finally silencing my critics (for the most part haha) was my favorite thing in the past couple of years.

Speaking of my critics, where the bloody hell is Florian??

Todd you really deserved the silence of your naggers, you play very well and you are definitely the man of 2009.

(EDIT: well,.. I just decided to delete the rest of my comment because I also want to say about me in future that Im not resentful. So.. no Less Grossman joke this time.. )

That is why we ought to outsource the “jury”.

As I wrote before, if I inadvertently insulted you dear Doits, I am deeply sorry. We all loved that challenge and the performances we enjoyed by a few gifted musicians. Those who participated in the Advanced Challenge stand in a category of their own, they unconditionally are “the finest” on the forum.

for me the funniest stuff that happened was the captain bob saga, some members huddling out in the cold at flamenco-teacher, (thanks ramin)

that and the ruben diaz "i am the one true disciple of san paco"

looking forward to the next decade, if we last that long

So nice of you, Doits. The sentiment is absolutly mutual.

Regradless, I would not want any of the foro's members to judge my composition. You saw how sensitive I become as soon as the slightest criticism is moved against it -even before I share the music.

If the general audience will dislike my music, my excuse will be thier ignorance and if Tomatito trashes it.... well, I am throwing his CDs out with the Tuesday trash.

Any way, my favorite memories of these forum since joining About a year ago:

1. The excitement of the first Challenge we organized, simply magic;
2. The insults I occasionally receive about my obtuse and ignorant approach to flamenco, they shake me off my routine (ie registering in Jason’s website);
3. Quitting the forum momentarily, after Ron –legitimately- scolded me about delaying posting the first Challenge’s scores;
4. The flattering compliments some have indulged me about the one “taranta” I hesitantly shared –I still dwell on such encouragement;
5. Meeting RiceCracker in person, sort of an “Avatar” (the Movie) experience [which movie, I admit I enjoyed over the Holidays];
6. 3 members were banned this year, the doctor, a Brooklyn based know-it-all, and a random venomous loser who attacked anything that had a pulse, not a pretty sight really, but each a memento of how we should cherish the fragile equilibrium Escribano and Ron establish and maintain on this foroflamenco…… I do not know what I would do without it

Hi gj!

I'm quite surprised that you are sensitive to criticism, considering your job.

I mean surely, you must be well used to adversarial situations, (eg in court etc).

I thought you would have shrugged that stuff off easily!

Certainly as far as my playing goes, it doesn't really bother me....it's just plain logic.

I can only do what I can do, no more.
If someone doesn't think it's up to much, then that's a fair enough opinion for them to have...it doesn't upset me though.
Anyway, I know all the stuff I do badly...I don't need anybody to tell me!

And if I want to improve, then I just have to work at it for longer.

I don't feel it demeans me as a person that I am not an ace Flamenco guitarist.

So there's nothing really to get upset about.

cheers,

Ron

On the one hand, in the professional side of my life I negotiate hostilities, and typically on a client’s behalf. There is a pragmatic detachment a lawyer needs to establish between his work and his client’s concerns. Surely, one becomes quite exercised over pressure, frustration and unpredictably adverse odds. At the same time, however close a lawyer may feel to the party or stake, a cool distance separates personal from professional, which is occasionally crossed by some at their own peril.

On the other hand, music –and particularly whatever I compose- represents the most intimate expression of my artistic sensibility, if I have any buried under my pinstriped suits. That is why I rarely share it in public, because it is “intimate”. The deepest of our thoughts or ideas will inevitably turn superficial once we allow it to surface. It will lose the intimate shelter which protects its personal identity. Yes, when I share my music I could lose my sleep, break into tears and reach the bottom of depression, if criticized, mocked or embarrassed.

On this foro, I feel at home, but I more often tell myself to keep my music for myself than to embrace the desire to share it publicly.

I am practicing, however, and want to record –and post on youtube- a few of my compositions. One is never fully ready to do so, I suppose, ‘could have practiced more, polished more, invented better phrases, bought a better guitar, camera or microphone…. And then the nails are never perfect, are they? So be it, in the next few days I will be “uploading”, and expect you to spend your usual kind words, after people will recommend that I resume playing country music, instead.

For me, it was taking a few lessons with Ricardo last fall, hanging out with gjMichelob, and when the foro went away, I realized how much I rely on this community for education, inspiration and just general camaraderie.

By the way, what ever happened to Koella and the guy who used to make the hand made cejillas?

Doug

RCP,

Koella was slowly drifting into doing musical arrangement stuff for brass etc (I think).
I think he still drops in every now and then.

Good guy.

Tony de las Cejillas (I've got one myself!) is still with us and uploaded a nice Bulerias of him and a friend playing a duo not that long ago.

cheers,

Ron
