Yep that's the one. Can't phone them from the US apparently...

I sent a request for current prices as well and haven't had a reply. Hopefully they are just on vacation or are having server problems. I'd hate to see them go out of business.

If you don't get reply from akustik, there's another seller in Turkey with similar selection: www.caucasianspruce.com
I ordered Caucasian spruce and Mediterranean cypress from them for my first build and the wood looks really nice (5 years dry cypress, 10 years dry spruce - at least that was noted on the wood). I took some luthier classes and my teacher said the wood is very good. They have prices on their web site.

It took some time but they got back to me.
We just ordered 2 sets of 1st grade Cypress, 2 sets of 2nd grade Cypress, 2 1st grade Spruce tops and 1 2nd grade Spruce top for a grand total of $330 USD including shipping.
Pretty good deal if it's nice stuff.

Has anyone contacted the Akustik Turkeys lately? I'm thinking about getting an order from them.

Any reports out there?

John, I swear I am not trying to be a smart aleck--

How else could they grade it (cypress)?

They might smell a little foul by the time they get there but just cut out the green parts

Yeah I have been in contact with them recently. I have the current price list which is the same as 2012.

I've always just sent them an email with my order and address and it turns up a week or two later.

If you don't have the price list and want it asap send me an email and I'll send it to you.

Not nearly as much as they would had you sent them pre-prepared with the taco fillings: shredded beef, grated cheese, lettuce, etc. But then, it's the thought that counts!

Just thinking about corn tortillas and first-rate tacos makes me envious of those living in the Southwest. In the Washington, DC area, we have some decent Mexican restaurants, but nothing to compare to the best in Arizona and New Mexico. I grew up in Arizona and for several years lived in Tempe, where Arizona State University is located. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the entire US is "Rosita's," which has been in the same location in Tempe for more than 60 years. Rosita's has the best shredded beef tacos I have ever tasted. During a visit to Arizona last December, I had the pleasure of meeting Miguel de Maria for lunch at Rosita's. I don't remember what he had, but I had my usual tacos, enchiladas, and frijoles refritos with a cerveza.

I have just about decided to move to Arizona within a couple of years, after decades of living abroad and in Washington, DC. My decision in no small part has been influenced by the proximity of great Mexican food.

Cheers,

Bill

Stiffness, weight and runout are more important to me than uniform color and grain; but you're right of course that they're no different from any other wood vendor in their grading method. I was mostly relating my experience that the 2nd grade wood was very good and sometimes better than the premium.

I don't think you're a smart aleck. It seems like a reasonable question.

So you're saying the runout was about the same in 1st and 2nd grade tops?

Stephan, I haven't bought any number 2 top wood. Only number 2 cypress and it was very comparable to the premium with the difference being mainly cosmetic...an occasional pin knot, swirls in the grain or color variation. Understand though that I have only bought about 40 or so sets of cypress from them most of which was premium grade so it is hardly a definitive sampling. I am still very pleased with Akustik's quality and price and will continue to use them as my vendor.
