Flamenco Chippendales

Hi everyone (special hello to Mark, Matic and Kate, I finally made it onto the foro),

I’m new at the forum and I thought I’d post my first thread about a show that I will never forget, however much I might want to.. Has anyone heard of Los Vivancos? They’re 7 brothers who dance an interesting mixture of flamenco, ballet, modern and hiphop/breakdance.

The show blew our minds, I seriously have no words to describe the... badness of it all. First of all, the music was horrifying, very electronic with the keyboard and its cheesy sound effects. Oh and wait, the brothers don’t just dance, they play instruments as well, a flute and a cajón and several types of violin and a saxophone and a drumset...

I have to admit, their dancing was sometimes pretty cool but I think they hid their at times mediocre skills by doing their choreographies all together, the seven of them looking very impressive, and also by being overly dramatic in general (there was a lot of kneeling down, clutching their faces and looking tortured). They did footwork, flips, jumps, summersaults and turns, and were gradually wearing less and less clothes, showing off their (very nice, I cannot deny) torsos to the crowd. The middle-aged woman in front of us could hardly contain herself and just jumped up out of her seat every now and then, she was so excited. It was a flamenco dramatic softporn stripact.

At some point during the show they did a dance-off and one of the guys said, “Check out my brother here, he has something to show you.” And immediately, without missing a beat, a woman from the audience called out, “Ahh! Off with the pants!” That’s about how classy it all was.

For half the show, my mouth was open in amazement, and the other half, I couldn’t stop laughing it was so funny (and they take themselves so seriously). Check it out here (ours was a different show, but comparable):

There Matic, I’m not hiding on the foro anymore, I actually posted something. Still, let’s start that Word Nerd thread soon (or: “what’s your favorite flamenco word?”).

wow, i cant wait to grow up to be just like those guys.

i wonder why the heck there are males in the audience? are they just going with girls they like in hopes of scavenging on whatever sexual excitement they retain after the show?

Hi Annemarie, welcome to the Foro, and what a great first post! Keep it up!! I thought that was truly atrocious!! Glad I wasn't there!

Yup! When Tom Jones was popular years ago and used to throw their underwear onto the stage, an interviewer asked what he thought that was like for their husbands. His answer was that the husbands got the actual benefit of his show!

I couldn't possibly comment on whether this effect is true or not

Hey Annamarie. Glad to see you have finally you've stopped lurking and started posting. We need the contribution of more women here. For anyone who hasnt met Annamarie, you should know she is a very modest person but is actually an amazing dancer who has studied with some of Spains top artists.....we would value your contribution here.
That show looks truly aweful Keep up the good work!

Hi Ailsa,

I know it's hard to believe now, but the very first time I ever saw or heard Tom Jones was when he was introduced as a new young pop singer from Wales on the Children's TV programme "Blue Peter". (Maybe "Magpie"? ..can't remember which.)

He did a short interview and sang "It's Not Unusual".

I thought it was just kinda OK, but my Mum thought it was fantastic and was glued to the set!

A couple of weeks later he got his first appearance on "Top of The Pops".

When I think about what was to follow or I see him doing his Las Vegas shows on TV now, I always laugh at that thought!

cheers,

Ron

i bet those tickets are expensive. maybe just a dvd of them would have the same effect? or youtube if you really want to be cheap.

Hi Anna Marie, great to see you here, a poor substitute for meeting up for lunch but still just as entertaining if your first post is anything to go by. I had to laugh at the comment on youtube which called it Power Ranger Flamenco, summed up those stiff robotic arms perfectly.

Love your signature
