Please... you bunch of lightweights... I am king for when I met Paco and shook his hand, he proceeded to ask ME what I thought of his album, Cositas Buenas. True story, actually.

Well I know her brother Marcial and JIngle of course so I ended up being invited round for a BBQ and Chonchi and her son were there. All in all it was a surprising day.
Oh right....so it's a name dropping contest now?
In that case I met Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas AND The Searchers too!
AND had a pint with the singer of "Needles and Pins" by the Searchers who was gracious enough to tell me that it wasn't his song but only a cover of a song by Sonny Bono.
Sheesh...even the ROCK STARS have a bit of humility!

That composition summarizes every corner and aspect of Paco’s innovations. In many serious academical institutions and Universities, all over the world, it is regarded as Paco de Lucia’s greatest work and achievement on the compositional field until now.

I am lucky, for today is my free day so, in some hours, I will analyse “La Estiba” -Track No. 1 of the last album of the Super-trio “Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin, Al di Meola” (1997)- and upload the video with the previously mentioned composition. As my personal gift to the audience that really likes and appreciates Paco for what he is. That composition summarizes every corner and aspect of Paco’s innovations. In many serious academical institutions and Universities, all over the world, it is regarded as Paco de Lucia’s greatest work and achievement on the compositional field until now.
Don't bother, we all know you have the technical abilities to pull it of.
It's just you don't get the point of playing Flamenco. It's not about copying who is the best in your opinion, it's about true that material finding your own sound, style, compositions....
If you say players like Vicente and Tomatito akknowledge Paco is the best (they do but that's just a way to pay respect to), in your logic they stop compose there music cause the music of Paco is better. Totaly ridiculous! Should we all then only play paco's music??
It's not about making the best music, it's about expressing the inner being. There are plenty of people who don't feel paco but like tomatito and that's a total subjective matter.
Instead of challenging Jason for that picado thing, why don't YOU upload a composition of yourself?
RE: Who is who ?...Tha Real Chalenge. (in reply to Ricardo)
1) No one can prove if I'm Paco's disciple or not but Paco himself, no one else. The oponents who say they know Paco for many years can not fathom how many people Paco has met in his life. I'm not worried about this because it is a FACT that what I claim to be it truth and I have demostrated and proved it thoroughly. It is not enough to be "friend" of Paco, there are thousands of people who say they are his so called "friends".That means nothing.... YOU HAVE TO PLAY LIKE PACO... Not just say: "I understand his music", "I know what he is doing".... YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT.
2)I only analize compositions of musicians from whom I can learn something. I could do the analysis for Mr. Jason's in 10 min but, if Mr. Jason wants to test me, I will test him first and challenge him and the others who pose their selves as "bonafied" teachers and players to show his great expertise and knowledge as a flamenco player. So please upload an hamonic analysis and technical explanation with the performance at actual speed of the Intro, theme and Paco'solo of "La Estiba" (Tangos) Track No. 1 of "Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin and Al di Meola" album 1997 as I DID IN EL CHORRUELO (Luzia album). Otherwise I -and the very inteligent audience who reads my lines- will take your messages as a cheap bla bla bla of someone who is AFRAID that their "authority" in this forum (in front of may good intentioned aspirants to play flamenco) will fall apart.
You have one week to upload your videos in the forum. Today is Tuesday June 16th so your deadline is Tuesday June 23th, 2009. If there is no uploads, I will upload mine and you will prove with your own actions that I'm right.
John Opheim

Hi Rubens, I'm the real Paco. Now, please stop talking about nonsense and start studying the right left hand technique. You've just 3 days to improve, then i'll stop to give you lessons. And please give me back my shirt.

Paco, maestro, now we have you on line I want to say I think PACO CEPERO kicks your butt and you stole his techniques! And while we are at it, your students need to work on their vibrato!

I am relatively a new comer to this forum, and to Flamenco playing. I have been fortunate enough to have been raised in a second generation Spanish home with all the folklore and tradition of Spain. I found this forum when I decided that it was not to late to learn this wonderful art.
This Forum is a tremendous tool to learn and to get advice from individuals that are talented in this art.
All the talented players, profesionals, teachers and fellow students that contribute to this forum, have always been supportive and encouraging.
I do not belive that such pointless challanges are necesary unless they contribute to the improvements of the readers. I do not think this qualifies. Ruben you are very talented and you have provided valuable information on your previous post. Why don't you leave it there and continue being a valuable contributor like many others have. I have never meet Jason, or Ricardo, but they have always contributed in a positive matter. I as a reader will not gained anything by this tit for tat fiasco. Please continue to post, your knowlage is valuable, but this challenge is not.
RE: Who is who ?...Tha Real Chalenge. (in reply to Conrad)
Hey you R...please take me really seriously.
NO ONE CAN PLAY LIKE ME, NEITHER ME.
I'll come back to the foro and analyse the first track of Saturday Night in San Francisco. I can remember few things, but for sure we had a very nice dinner (lobsters from the bay). Paco Cepero stoles everything, if you are in contact with that baldy guy, please ask him my old shirt.

My post disappeared.... ****!
Let me summarize instead the initial thread, the parameter for this "fair" challenge here and all when I read so far from a man who lost the bright path..: --> LOL

Like the way Paco cups underhand - I bet he doesn't show such subliminal messages of tenderness to anyone esle but his favourite brown-noser...show us yer photos Rubes...

This place has just gone insane! Reuben, you gotta back off as things are getting to the point of ridiculousness, I am starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with where things are going.
My contribution:
I have met Juan Martin and he was a very nice gentleman and gave me his autograph. I know there is a photo with Juan and Paco playing together, so that is close as I get.
I met and chatted with Nina Hagen. That was pretty cool.
