El Nino Miguel

I did a search, but I could only find a thread about him in the video uploads section, and when I clicked on the link ....I got a youtube selection of popular videos of the month (maybe) This month it was blondes taking over Latvia.*_^

But anyway, back on topic. I am curious and want to learn more about him.

There are several vids on youtube, some were taken in his younger days before the mental illness and some more recent.

This is probably old hat to some of you, but it's new for me.

I was a bit surprised at some of the comments on youtube though. Not sure if I should bring them up, I don't want to start a "flame war".

Well, I see Miguel here and there. He comes to our peña often and plays. In the first clip of yours, he´s playing at our peña from 1.14

Miguel is a mentally ill dropout. he suffers paranoic psycosis and he likes to take "things" which doesnt really help him.
He´s more or less well loked after. Unfortunately his mother died recently, but he continues in the flat and his family and others help him. Sometimes he´s in a center for a while and it seems to help him.

Sometimes you see him badly off in the streets. But its not so often anymore.

His playing is still fantastic when he´s on. Its not clean and polished. Often he plays without nails. But its VERY deep and very complex.

Anders, does he really visits your pena? impressive!
if i'd have to choose between meeting PDL or nino miguel my choice would be clear.
does he speak? or is it possible to communicate with him?

I´ve started responding to this message 2 times, but got thrown off twice. Inmensively annoying.

So third time and a little less patient:

Miguel lives and breathes flamenco, so I find it to be natural that he frequents the peñas.

I love to listen to him with a singer. Very personal and spot on.

If you are good at toothless andalusian gipsy Spanish, you can communicate with Miguel. If not, you can hang out and have a couple of beers. Anyway, I feel that Miguel prefers playing to talking.

Hello Wannabee,

My father recently visited Miguel in Huelva on Saturday April 25. A friend of ours that lives in Huelva said that it would be the luck of the draw to find him as he could be any where. Eventually they did find him, and took him to Peña El Higueral. My father called me in the U.S. on his cell phone as soon as Miguel got there, and I had a brief conversation with him. I actually wondered if he spoke. The answer is yes, although he has a very hoarse voice. He played his Vals Flamenco, and accompanied some singing por Soleá and Fandangos de Huelva. I think my father said he also sang a Fandango. Here is the a video of that day that my father met Migué. He had been up at another peña until 4:30 a.m. playing guitar, so he was a little tired.

I don't know but i think he looks much better (also plays better) than 1 year before or so when i saw another video from him.

I was there that day. Its true, Miguel even sang. Your father (Pepe) sang as well, and I had the pleasure to accompany him.

Hello Anders,

Wow, that´s an amazing coincidence! I´ll tell my father all about it. My father said the people he met at the peña that day (you included!) were extremely hospitable, and all very nice. I was literally blown away just getting to talk to Miguel on the phone. On our next trip to Spain, we will definitely have to get together and have a nice huerga at the peña!
