I too felt jinxed, partly from recording but also because I ended up doing it between other pressing activities.. all the takes were getting messed up, and increasingly so. My tip to all challengers not used to this sort of thing: start RECORDING early, and not only earlier during the last day. And if you do a lot of re-takes, take breaks in between or you'll end up getting very tense and frustrated - you won't fool the microphone. I would definitely say that my recording reflects the player I really am. I consider keeping the nerves from taking over the performance an important guitar playing skill. when nervous, the blood is redirected to the large muscles and fingers go cold and stiff, not to mention what happens to the mind and focusing... besides technique, compas, and swing i REALLY have a problem with nerves... I'm embarrassed about it, i'd much rather be the relaxed and lyrical guy when playing the guitar. This has been very humbling, but refreshing also. Count me in for the next challenge as well :-)
