Is this a tribute to Pat Metheny?

I came across this video of Vicente Amigo, gorgeous music, but the title has me wondering.

Wannabee,

It is a tribute. About 1994 or 1996, Vicente did a tour of Mexico, and being in San Diego allowed myself and a couple others to see him in Mexicali and Tijuana. I asked him a little about Pat Metheny, and he gestured that he loved Pa. A friend of mine read an interview where Vicente also stated that he really likes Michael Stearn and other steel string players, sort of new-age greats if I remember correctly.

Pat Metheny is really a genius, and although he doesn't play flamenco, his knowledge of the guitar and music in general is tremendous. If you are interested, check out:

1) One Quiet Night

2) Beyond the Missouri Sky

These two CDs give you a taste of his playing, with minimal other instrumentation, they are nothing short of gorgeous.

I love Pat Metheny's playing. His album "letter from home" (I think that's what it's called) is a truly innovative mix of jazz and world music. It's one of my all time favs.

The most incredible thing about his playing, at least to me, is that eventhough he manages to play at very fast tempos, he always sounds relaxed...like he's in sort of a daydream state or something. His playing never seems forced or stressed, unlike many other players.

Anyway, I listened to Metheny before I got into flamenco...I still love them both.
