Romance flamenco, help a brother out

I have a dancer from spain coming down for a workshop and shes teaching Romance...i have never played Romance...i have listened to it on some compas cds...on some it uses the same key as the solea por bulerias and on some it sounds as alegrias...

i dont have my entire audio collection here with me to judge it...whats the most commonly used key for dance and cante accomp in Romance ?

This reminds me something

All the romance I listened to, were playing in the por arriba key. Don't know for the dance or solo stuff.
2 kind of romance cante: por solea and por buleria.

The caracteristic of this stuff is all in the cante. If there's no cante in, then i suppose it sounds like a basic solea por buleria or buleria. No?

with dance

cool thank you guys...i got it now

it frustrates me why they asked to learn this..there is more of the more commonly used palos (which we use every week) they could have improved and built on and made even better...instead every workshop they ask for something completely different that leads to nothing as we hardly do it or will do it once...or do it without singer and might as well be doing solea .....

more practical...better 4 pieces that sound different but well stocked with good choreography than 10 pieces done half way (cause of limited time) that sound kind of like each other anyway

but thats just me...i cant tell them its their workshop

I'm hearing you Florian.

This is Chica's workshop i assume?

I think the more common palos are more useful as well. It is especially bad when they want you to play for these workshops but only want you for the last few hours to save money. Then you have to turn up without the opportunity to get to know the dance compas by compas. And if it's a palo like romance Flamenco, It ends up a massive stress.

exactly man

yes it is the chica workshop...are you doing that too ? mybe u can give me heads up on the letra shes doing....she often likes to sing it in classes and does it for a particular letra

its just so unpractical...by now we coud have 10 reaLLY reaLLY polished choreographies but instead there's 40 half done...cause they have to have something completely new everytime

meanwhile u see dancers from spain dance the same solea for example all of their career with slight variations ...not doing completely new solea all the time...that's how u polish it and make it perfect...you build on what u have...keep the good

I'm not sure who's playing for the brisbane workshop. Maybe Andrew? I'm glad i stayed away now i know it's romance.

It's the same here as well. Last year we worked on solea por bulerias and Caña with the more advanced students. Just before the end of the year we got it to a level where the girls knew the dance and i had worked out nice guitar parts. And just when we were at the point where we could start to dance the whole choreography and work on the flow and aire, It's time to forget that one and learn something else

I agree. If it were up to me, I would spend this year working on the same dances again.

dancers always want to be "different" because they realize at a certain point they can't just do the basic thing as good as Manuela carrasco or farruco.

But occasionally you meet a real master that just wants to dance a straight forward solea with no real rehearsal...and it is always the most kick ass performance in comparison. Always.
