Rene Baarslag

I will be checking out a Rene Baarslag flamenco next week. Does anyone have any experience with his guitars?

Rene has a good reputation as a luthier individually and along with his partner (luthiery and I think romantically), Ana Espinosa. If you are going to his shop you should check out Ana's guitars as well.

So how did you find them?

I have a classical guitar made by René in 1983 when he was still in Granada. It was the best (affordable and immediately available) classical guitar I could lay my hands on and I still have and still like it. It is tremendously well built and has being devolping all the time getting better and better.

As a footnote: at that time I also bought a Jose Llopez Bellido flamenca blanca with wood peg head. Me stupid idiot sold that guitar, which was marvelous, too.
