Paco Pena in Washington, DC November 18

Paco Pena has been much discussed on the Foro lately, and I am very pleased to see that he will be performing a show in Washington, DC, at GWU's Lisner Auditorium on Wednesday, November 18, at 8:00 PM. Paco Pena has always been my favorite tocaor running the flamenco circuit, even during the days of PDL's performances. Saw him last four years ago, and judging from the latest reviews of those who have seen him on this run, he is as masterful as ever.

RE: Paco Pena in Washington, DC Nove... (in reply to BarkellWH

My wife Marta and I, with a couple of friends, saw Paco Pena's performance at GWU's Lisner auditorium in Washington, DC last night. It was a stellar performance. I would agree with the rave review's Paco's group received in another, recent thread from Foro members who have recently seen him perform. The chief male dancer (Angel Munoz) was outstanding, and the female dancer, in a bata de cola, did a superb number that was traditional (i.e., not so much a choreographed ballet) but beautifully executed.

Paco himself was outstanding on the guitar, although he only played two solo pieces. I would have liked to hear a couple more solos from him. His two accompanying guitarists and the cajon player rounded it out perfectly. His lead female singer, Imaculada Rivera, was superb. Paco ended the performance by getting everyone to stand up and play guitars and palmas, while Imaculada, the lead singer who is rather short and plump, danced as they all sort of "cake-walked" off the stage. He did the same thing at a performance I attended three years ago. It was an enjoyable and fun way to end the performance. First rate.
