Sealer for pore filling instaed of p...

I was wondering if we can you normal sealer instead of pumice pore filling which goes very messy !!! the idea is to apply 2 or 3 coat of a sealer, then sanding until the wood than applying shellac ? is there any drawbacks ?

There is a clear pore filler that works well with about 2-3 coatings from LMI catalog.

If you're filling open pore wood like E. I. Rosewood nothing works better than epoxy.
We use z-poxy surfacing resin. You work the z-poxy into the pores full strength using something like a credit card pressing firmly to force it into the pores then squeegee off the excess. Sand or scrape once dry and apply one or two more coats thinned with denatured alcohol before applying shellac.
Warning! epoxy resins only work on bare wood, they will not stick if applied over shellac any other sealer. Epoxy really brings out the grain of the wood.

Once when I finished a guitar using aerosol cans of lacquer from StewMac, I used sealer as pore filler. The finish bubbled and the golpeador peeled off in the customer's hands. I would avoid using excessive amounts of sealer.

It would be interesting to try this stuff. I would imagine that the look of the pores would be different. Makers, varnishers and clients would have to get used to the look.
