Golpe with thumb

The previous golpe post has reminded me of a question I have:

Recently when playing I have been adding golpes with thumb, ie tapping the top of the guitar as opposed to the golpeador part. Is this bad practice? I'm not sure where I picked this up from or whether its common - just feels kind of natural although I am damaging the guitar - is it possible to get another tap plate fitted on top or should I just stop doing this??

I seem to do this during pauses, ie to mark out the beat, as opposed to when actually playing a note.

Its a n old technic. Watch the gerardo video. He shoes it. But nobody uses it today anymore. Maybe except Juan Martin and Paco Pena.

I'm confused. Disregarding orientation, Are you talking about the soundboard or the side of the guitar?

Hello,
I am reviving this old thread with a question. Does anybody use thumb for golpe when playing rasgueo abanico by hitting the lower tap plate on the up motion before digging into strings. It is a bit like inverted capirote played with the thumb.

Thank you

Yup, intentionally and at times inadvertently.

Thank you Ramzi and Sr. Martins,

Big relief. I was not sure I was doing the right thing with occasional golpes.
