¡Qué bien se come en Andalucía!

Yesterday I bought a wild dorada and a wild rodaballo (turbot?). Dorada al horno was delicious, today an arroz caldoso en el estilo de Cádiz, with mussels, almejas, langostinos and caldo de rodaballo. ¡Qué arte tienes los Andaluces!: por eso Merkel quiere frenarnos

yes turbot ....sounds nice , of all the words to get ...for you Sr O'Brien that word is one of the , many , celtic words that got somehow shoved into Spanish via Gallicia ..

i found this for you out of interest ...

rodaballo [m] 'turbot', alternative spelling rodavalho, from a Celtic composite form *roto-ball-jo- meaning 'round-extremity', akin to Irish roth 'wheel', Welsh rhod, Breton rod, and Irish ball 'limb, organ'.

heres another that should really start a bar fight in Andalucia ....

cervexa [f] 'beer', alternative spelling cerveja, from Vulgar Latin *cerevisia, Spanish cerveza; akin to Old Irish coirm, Welsh cwrw, Breton korev.

keep your head down ....

My grandparents from Cork called it "bior", I don't know if I'm spelling it right but that's how it sounded. Wonder when the Irish switched over to the more Germanic version....

Very jealous of your fresh bounty Morante!

Well, if you live in Ireland you can eat even better, fresh wild salmon and trout, for example

Cant help you with the 'bior 'bit Leñador ...i just live here now but am not from Ireland .. All I know is in the city they put the word 'Boy (Boi) ' on the end of many sentences...

Yes there is a lot of fish and seafood . down here which my Portuguese wife eats every day if she could ..and as you said . tons of salmon ...although i do prefer sea fish to river fish ..

I suppose what you got to do is get the best of what there is in your area....and that seems to be what you have done Morante ...

Langostinos , pretty expensive , and smaller , over here .....(a la plancha .. mmmm)

edit .....sorry Leñ .. just re-read your post ... i wasnt thinking right ...you , and your grandparents are right ..'Bior' i can hear it now ... yes thats cork city ....sorry for being slow ....

Ay, ¡qué disparate!
Cómo nos gusta el atún de Barbate,
pero la hambre la vamos a sentir,
que mire usted qué crisis tiene este país.

Ay, con el caray, caray, caray,
que éstas son las cosas que pasan en Cai,
que ni la hambre la vamos a sentir,
mire usted que fiesta, mire usted que gracia,
mire usted que crisis tiene este país;
que la hambre la vamos a sentir,
mire usted que fiesta tiene este país.

¡Olé! Estevan.

Cada año en marzo al principio de Carnaval, los socios y amigos de la Peña Flamenkito Apalea nos reunimos a las seis de la mañana pa hacer dobladillos (bocadillito de pan, tomante, caballa, mayonesa y pan. Normalmente hacemos 10.000 antes de las 12.00. Este año, el Ayunamiento retiró subvenciones, pero hicimos 7,000 por nuestra cuenta. Cruzcampo regaló la cerveza y hubo una fiesta callejera de escándalo. Viva Caí!
