According to Ed Blackshear who taught Navarro the black magic of tuning, it is made to his measured drawing of a Reyes. I have a blanca to that drawing made by Lucio Nunez and it is a good guitar not to be sneezed at but no world beater.

Is that Navarro?

Is he safe in Michoacan? I think I mispelled that and I mispelled mispelled, but the point is the same.

Yeah can't you tell by the shirt. i really don;t envy those guys down there in what is close to a war zone, My grandfather was managing his step-fathers silver mines and in 1910 decided to vamoose as the revolution was getting hot and heavy to the point my father in the Pennsylvania National Guard mounted unit was called up to deploy to the border as Mexican war lords were raiding into the US. So I suspect the locals are philosophical abut the current disturbances.

It would be fascinating if Navarro turned out to be the biggest cartel warlord in all of Mexico shipping the white stuff in his blancas

None of the above. That he would have entrusted his beloved Rayes to a maker whose guitars sell sub $4k. That he would termpted fate and ventured into Michoacan
in a quest for the perfect guitar.

Somewhat off topic but maybe not too much as it concerns the Navarro clan and their increasing fortunes, I've just ordered a Conde flamenco with a cedar top rosewood, palo escrito back and sides (as described by the distributor who received it last week). Price delivered with case:$895 US dollars. This is made by son Marlon. Came across this advert for a Marlon Navarro guitar:
http://www.mundo-flamenco.com/nc/en/guitars/gitarren-details.html?tx_kwmundoguitars_pi3%5BshowUid%5D=118

Wow, that's an even bigger margin than GSI adds

there is no "cedar top rosewood"
its only cedar top.
then palo escrito for back and sides (which is mexican rosewood used a lot in paracho)

Picky, picky...so a comma was left off after top and a colon after rosewood.

oh, ok, that makes sense.... I guess he's just brave and fearless!

maybe was he just touring the southern states and needed a luthier fast? or maybe he saw a Reyes copy and thought he'd see if it was as good as the original? who knows?

Yeah that's the missing link here. How did he come to try Navarro's guitars
and become so interested to seek out Navarro in such dangerous circumstances in Michocan?. Perhaps he had no knowledge of the local conditions. One might speculate that the Navarro guitar was of such capability that he threw caution to the winds. there is nack story here waiting to be told.

Maybe the Mexican killed two birds with one stone.
Rammed the guitar full of "white powdery stuff',flew to Spain ,black marketed said powder and paid for the return flight by selling the guitar to a local performer.......that's the way to do it ....even got a photo of himself (in his new shirt) with the local yocal guitar hitter to throw the authorities off the scent .
Ahhh dodgy flamenco dudes....don't ya just luv em!!

Best
