Ramon Montoya

Does anyone know of a very high quality remastered recording of Montoya's solo material? Last year or the year before I got my hands on the remastered Robert Johnson complete recordings and it completely shocked me. The sound is so much cleaner and all of the hiss is gone. I wish someone would think to do the same to Montoya's famous 1936 session. I have the Grandes Figures Du Flamenco collection from Chant Du Monde on which the sound stinks. I got my hands on the 1924-1936 collection that is so much better, but I am hoping I can find an even better quality recording. Does anyone have any info on this? At this point I am pretty much boosting the volume on the 1924-1936 collection using a simple sound editor because it sounds like I am listening to Montoya over a cordless phone from the 90s.

$3.14 new at amazon. But,only one problem: Segovia is also on the discs. Comparing classical to flamenco?

Hard not to judge this one by the cover. Wow that is fromage. Thanks so much though I am going to check it out immediately. I think the Segovia/Montoya pairing actually makes sense. The whole Spanish guitar thing reminds me of when I was not even sure there was a difference between Flamenco and classical guitar. Green as the grass back then!

oh,

it is the Centennial Collection that was released in 2011. Here is a review.

http://blogcritics.org/music-review-robert-johnson-the-centennial/

Problem with the recording aeolus recommended is that it is not all 16 tracks that were in that session. (17? I think Montoya did two takes of the minera).

I love the sound of the recital de guitarra flamenca album because the volume is loud and punchy and there is a great natural reverb to the recording. It actually sounds like it has depth. Richest sound probably. Unfortunately, it is also the crackliest sound!

Anyway, look I am not such a snob when it comes to recording quality, I just wish this classic and fundamental historical flamenco recording would get a decent remastering!

I wonder if Robert Johnson ever heard flamenco and if he did what he thought of it
