Hybrid Viola Peg

Just saw at International Violin a viola peg that is a cross between a regular peg and a peghead. Per the description this peg is pushed into a hole and not glued. There are gears with the peg. The pegs are made by Wittner (I believe they are a German company and come in two thicknesses: 9.2 and 8.6mm). The cost is $19.50 each--about what Pegheads cost. Here is a link

They're the violin, viola type only. The string hole is in the wrong place, and useless for guitars.

a guitar hole might be possible and the viola hole filled. wittner may make guitar "hybrid" pegs. i "discovered" them today while i was at the site.

Wittner does not make/market a guitar-specific tuning peg.
These viola pegs will not work for a guitar no matter what you do to the hole. The small end of the shaft, where the string attaches on a traditional flamenco guitar peg, does not turn on the Wittner peg nor does the large end of the shaft nearest the knob/head of the peg. Only the knob and the center section of the peg shaft turn in the Wittner design.
Wittner has been in the violin accessory business for many years.
Another company that markets a similar peg for bowed instruments is Knilling. They call it the Perfection Peg.
The Knilling name has been around for a long time as well. They are now part of a big mass-market wholesale operation and their focus is primarily student level bowed instruments from various manufacturers in Germany, Romania and the Czech Republic.

oh well on that idea although it could be an interesting one for guitar. i found this peg while at work and we have a computer system that blocks videos--makes for less than productive surfing but more productive working.

I thought this was really interesting until I found out that they won't work for guitars. Though perhaps the small end could be glued to the next segment to make the small end turn too....
