Stories of Lust and Anticipation

I am having a first custom guitar built for me currently. And what started composed, rather spontaneously and as if it was to be a quick project, changed into a rather special and more and more detailed undertaking. Just as remarkable simultaneously the entertaining factor for me, who is crumbling away in anticipation. I mean there is good reason for excitement considering impressions of the luthier´s talent; and the materials are outstanding and of aesthetical sensation as well, ... but if you could see HOW I am stumbling over myself about any little notion of the project ... about what the luthier is saying or about any little photo of the bench ... You might be laughing your head off. Several times a day I will launch some pics and contemplate over them as if it was the worlds sensational epitome. All the time trying to imagine how the thing might feel, sound and look when completed. Such delicious fancying. And the piece of mind it gives midst of lesser pleasant conditions ( for use of moderate terms) is unbelievable. It works like an instant mood elevator. Anytime. It really is beyond belief. As entertaining as it all is to me, it made me interested in hearing some stories of fellow aficionados. Not necessarily about guitars in construction, but any exciting events when you either experienced or anticipated a guitar as bewitching, but couldn´t get your hands on it right away. Stumbling over yourself while awaiting the opportunity of embracement. All my guitars came with special stories, some including goosepimples and "sleepness nights". I am sure, occasionally you will have found yourself turned into a hyperactive fidget too. :0) Ruphus

Hi Tijeretamiel, Normally I would always prefer trying out a guitar first before buying. Originally the only factor that made me consider an hypothetical custom build was because of use of a certain wood, which is ancient kauri. The oldest usable wood in the world and often times of stunning appearance too. From there I had in the back of my head to "one day in the future" possibly have a guitar built of AK. The initial spark to this very case of ordering a custom guitar was something else, though. It was my accidental clicking on someone´s demo video who is a luthier and fellow member of the foro. I had not expected what I was getting to see in that clip, in regard of both his playing and more even the sound of the guitar he had build. Coming videos of following guitars confirmed that the man can build in such ways consistently; and what I heard gave me hope that his building gift could provide me a "remake" of a certain, very special guitar that I had the pleasure of playing decades ago, and which I have been trying to hunt down since then. It was a guitar that would beam you off your anywhere couch into some southern Spainish landscape, like looking down from the hill of an olive groove or such and hearing the bumblebees humming by. And this maker´s guitars, already evident in recordings, sound flamenco as it gets. What came on top of it all is that his prices are distinctively below of what you would expect with guitars of such remarkable properties. I don´t want to point to him namely yet, before receiving the instrument first. That is because if the guitar turns out as expected ( which I am pretty certain of) I want to open a dedicated thread with story and review. If the guitar would theoretically however perfom below a certain level, I would for certain reason prefer to not name him. It should not take too long until the guitar be finished, and we will find ways to ship it to over here ( not directly possible due to international sanctions). I estimate to receive it within coming one or two months. Not very long after receipt I will with 90% certainty be bothering the forum with audio and pictures. Am even considering getting a certain lense for my main camera and background paper only for this object. The eye candy shall be worth appropriate measures. Ruphus

Damn, Aeolus! That is how I experience life. The more anxcious I am the rather there will be coming somethingg in between. Summer heat is something to worry about indeed. After shipment arrival from overseas an idiot of a driver had put my Ramirez into his trunk with him stuck in traffic at over 40°C ( in the trunk hence probably easily around 100°). That day I wrote a really nasty e-mail to the seller, as the guitar performed like a piece of cardboard, with action off etc. Two days later I felt so lucky about having had not sent the mail yet. Unbelievably the guitar recovered and turned out pretty lush actually. A while afterwards Lester DeVoe and I agreed on postboning a shipment of a guitar of his in order to omitt shipping in the summer heat. Hope yours will be largely in ACed halls and air streamed trucks though / arriving alright. > knock on wood< Hey Sig, Thank you so much; got to hold that thing in hands yet, though. Guitars that really fit do indeed elevate one´s inspiration and performance. That original specimen that I hope to be "reproduced" now, used to do so in an unbeliavable way. No matter what I messed around, it would just sound fantastic. You actually only needed applying any sort of arpeggio and it would sound lovely Spanish on steroids. Nearly such is what I so dearly expect with this coming gem. > drool!< :O) Nick, I recall forum members pointing out that US airlines have meanwhile slackened regulations and will allow taking of guitars into the cabine. I wish you a good and convincing day for the trip anyway! Give the lady at the check in your best smile. Last time I did, she allowed my guitar case on board and registered my cat for half of its actual weight ( which meant quite some spared cash). She was a real sweety. :O) NP, Ron is a very nice guy, I am sure he will be supplied with the better production and pass on the better of the two to you as promissed. 3 weeks can be such a long time, innit. ;O) I am expecting some pics to be dropping in any minute now. Mostly around this time of day seems to be the creating man´s computing time. Ruphus
