funny finger pain here

Well its not that funny, but I have had an odd pain in my fretboard hand middle finger for a few weeks now. Its not that bad but I can't figure out if playing is making it worse of not.

I think it could be from too much endless Tangos and Bulerias at dance classes or even more stupidly practicing my rasgueos and pretending my left hand are strings.

Anyone here had such a pain. It pretty dull comes and goes a bit and does not really hurt more from playing.... but can't seem to shake it off.

Thanks.

Don't worry about it.

If you are holding onto chords for a long time ease up the pressure rhythmically.

Great explanation here starting at about 6.30. You might not think this doesn't happen in flamenco but once you start doing it and to all the greats post Paco (Tomitito in particular) then you will start to realise that the funk aint all about the right hand.

I wish there was more discussion about this in flamenco, and more detail in transcriptions. This Bolton Character really breaks it down and then if you want you can take that to flamenco. Let you rest your hands and sound funkier win win.

But that is by the by.

Pain and numbness in the hands is mostly deferred from the site of the actual muscles (anywhere from the forearms to the neck, USUALLY THE NECK ).

And you can take that as gospel as Diego Del Gastor told me in a dream and he never had RSI.

Excessive repetition of certain falsetas or chord progression(for example when learning) can certainly cause some strain in the left hand. For example especially when pressing more than one frets with one finger for long time. I have learned this through slight pain in the right and left hand that excessive repetition is not good, and as soon as something hurts it's a sign to stop. If one has to play, then play something completely different or better, take a break for at least 30 minutes. Learning flamenco is hard work and it's best to learn when you are overworking Take a break for couple days if it gets worse. And be careful, my friend knows pro flamenco guitarist who acquired tendinitis from excessive playing/practice.

Thanks guys,

I have been playing guitar 20 years or so, had lots of little aches and pains but not this one but I think endless A and Bb might be responsible. I thought I would see if anyone had had it. Guitarbuddha that video sounds interesting do you have the link ? I will definitely try to ease up on my left hand as I am sure its over tense. There are some good exercises in pumping nylon DVD that I might give a try.

Cheers

Are you playing those chords exclusively at the same place on the fretboard?

If you concentrate on the stress points of those chords on the finger then I feel like that middle finger part is very noticeably strained, so take it easy and play por arriba for a while
