How many people play flamenco? gener...
Just an interesting observation here. I have a video where I play falsetas of Moraíto por bulerías, slowly, kind of a didactic video, I'm not even playing very well. It didn't generate much interest initially, but especially this year it took off and now has over 16,000 views, around 200 new daily. I didn't expect this kind attention and it made me start wondering how many people play flamenco guitar? Even if everyone watches the video 4 times, it's still thousands of people.
More than 10000 of these views come from Spain, 1500 from France, 800 from the U.S., then Japan with 350, then come the other Western European countries. It's also interesting to note the age groups here, males of around 35-50 are overrepresented, and the really young ones (under 20) who watch this come from Spain and Argentina. The vast majority of over 45s are U.S. and U.K. based.
Also, 80% of views come from YouTube's suggested videos links, so it may be worth noting, that if you want views for your videos, it's important to type the key words properly.

there is no question, it's just a general wondering... and having seen the stats to this video, it made me kind of happy that there are surely a lot more flamenco players than i would've thought...
you can also see that in Spain and South America young people are more exposed to the genre, whereas in other, non-spanish speaking parts of the world, it's mostly the aging men's hobby, because they find the genre later in their lives...

no but now u got me thinking..!! if theres a way one could make any kind of close to truth calculation
what would be the most accurate way u can think off to make some kind of assumption how many flamenco guitarists in the world
there has to be a way...of the top of my head...and more a guess than fact but the amount of total Juan martin La guitarra books ever sold times 1 for the other half that never got it..Total ...the closest to accurate amount of flamenco guitarists in the world..
I am gonna open a poll and ask who has Juan M. La guitarra and who dosent...if its about even...my theory is right

The number of hits your YouTube video gets does not indicate how many people play flamenco. Many people who do not play guitar of any genre still love to listen to it. How many people love and listen to rock music on YouTube videos, or in concert venues, yet cannot play a note and don't even try. They just love the music. The same holds true for flamenco. You will have to employ another methodology to determine how many people play flamenco. YouTube hits won't do it.

Obviously you haven't checked out the video. It would've been nice to have done that before deciding to comment.
There is no methodology and I don't even want to try to determine how many people play flamenco.
But this very video, it's falsetas played slowly, surely not very entertaining for the average flamenco fan who doesn't play. So I assume that most of the people who watch it, are players themselves. So I'm inclined to think that while it's far from being representative, it gives me food for thought.

I walked into guitar center yesterday and the room that has the nylons, banjos, and mandolins had a wall that said "Flamenco's" It was two yamaha's, a cordoba, and a manuel rodriguez, nothing nice but all blancas w/ golpeadores. I had been there a few months ago and this was not there. I thought it was kind of interesting and I wondered something similar.
As far as the count goes, I play and I'm in LA so now we have 2!

I did listen to your video. Don't assume everything is as "obvious" as you think. As to your statement, quoted above, I guess that's why you titled your thread, "How Many People Play Flamenco? Stats." Obvious, indeed!

Also if someone was learning that falseta would they not come back to it mulitple times? therefore each student could have 30 or 40 hits .?
So anyway, assuming 7 billion people in the world , 1 percent may like flamenco , half of which own a guitar , and half of them can play something ...and a few other things to cut the numbers down , like classical players etc .... I get the number 3, 500,000.......... Or maybe I forgot to carry the 1 , anyway its better than the prevoius estimate of 2

Just to double check hings , tonight I will calculate the ammount of people in the world who dont play flamenco and then subtract that from the world population to reveal the answer ,,,,,!!!
Oh yeah , Australia , i might forgot about that place in some calculation s , oh well never mind .. ......

well i must say i am very disappointed by the lack of support for my own studies on the subject...the only people who tried to help were people who weren't able to vote cause they aren't here
could it be cause you are afraid of what i might discover ? 48 % of the world population plays flamenco guitar
that you not so special...that perhaps 5 people down your street are doing guitar right now ? in fact your boss plays bulerias ...and everyone at your restaurant gig is not stupid and knows everything you do wrong , or try to pass as flamenco when you cant be bothered and think they wont know anyway

Hardly angry and negative. My first post simply pointed out that the number of hits on your YouTube video was not a good indicator of how many play flamenco guitar. You are the one who got in a huff and assumed that it was "obvious" I had not watched it. I suggest you cool down a bit.

I can confirm all your observations so far Jimmy. The only thing i kinda disagree is that i think many of those thousands are usually not that much interested in flamenco. They like the sound of it and watch youtube videos or even tutorials like yours, but they cant play that well or dont want to practice. Btw it is correct to assume that most of the viewers are players. Because the channel does not have too much else than guitar playing and isnt so famous that it could draw, say, too many people from non-guitar fields into it (i think). So yes, it is obvious.

Since i also have a similar vid in my YT channel*. A buleria pedagogic one. Views are super high and I have received tons of kind comments etc, it makes me think that flamenco guitarist (students) community is way much more bigger than what is represented in the foro. Well it's certainly sounds obvious, but i'm sure that some people think in this isolation as the norm.
I think guitaristas gets just happy when you really SHARE something with them. I linked the bulerias vid I mentioned here in the Foro and if I received a few thanks, I can be thankful. So I'm glad to know that my efforts to produce this vid were really appreciated and enjoyed outside this place.
Buleria always gets more attraction. Your seguirya one did not follow the same line na?

Another possibility is that these are non-flamenco guitar players who are curious as to how one plays flamenco guitar.

yeahbut (note: all one word!) i thought he quoted the stats in the post, he wasn't asking for stats...
this is crazy, half the thread is about us trying to work out what the original post meant before we can even think about replying to it!
