Strings for Yamaha CG171SF

Hi All,

I am a fairly new Flamenco player so upon my teacher's reccomendation I started out with the Yamaha. Eventually got the bone nut and bridge. My teacher reccomended to use Savarez High Tension strings (520R) on it and thats what I have been using so far...

Now, since I can play a little bit better I want to experiment out with different ones. I realize that asking for "the best set" is opening a can of worms. So all I wish to ask is what are the different sets of strings folks have used specifically on the Yamaha flamenco. Are there sets of strings that others think that I should try out?

Thank a lot in advance,
Ashish

You better try some sets of different labels by yourself.... It depends what strings your fingers accept.

Hi Ash

I have a yamaha as well and the best ones I find are the D'addario Pro -Arte range
I didn't like the High tension strings , of any make really , but I do play quite hard .
I used to use the EJ45 medium tension and found them very good and an excellent price , then I swapped for the EJ 43 light tension which i found much better for me and my guitar , I also find that the D'addario Pro -Arte range in general last a lot longer than others and I dont have the problem of the D string snapping first,

Same here! Have tried a bunch but... D'Addario EJ45 seems to work well with it.

I usually use and feel comfortable with Hannabach 8273 SHT Flamenco but recently I've used D'addario Pro -Arte (cheaper) and they're pretty good as well
and yea both are high tension.
