Thumb pressure during picado

Hey there guys, just wondering during picado, do you guys push into to 6th string with your thumb or just rest the thumb on the 6th string?
I've seen videos of some player's thumb almost near the the 5th string during picado runs.
How do you guys do it? I just rest with a very slight pressure towards the 5th string.

what if you want to make picado on the 5th or the 6th string

I just made a scale and I found that I rest my thump slightly on the 6th string when doing picado on 1st,2nd,3rd strings when movin to the 4th my thump starts to fly and rest on the guitar body upper the 6th string .

hope its clear

I don't push down with the thumb so much as I do picados because I shift my whole arm up and down as I move up and down the strings - thus moving the thumb anywhere from 4th string to the body of the guitar.

HOWEVER, this pushing down from the thumb I do pretty much ALL THE TIME when I do the rageo's and strumming with the index finger, as I find that it gives me better control. Harder I attack, harder I push down with the thumb.

I guess some guitarists might find it that the same applies to picados, but not really for me. But if you haven't experimented with this, especially for your rasgeo's, you've got to.

i dont really press down i dont think (or not purposefully anyway) i just keep it on E as an anchor ot keep my hand steady and move to the sound board when do picado on bass strings.

However one thing i am concerned with right now is my thumb during bulerias compas.

I find my thumb is slipping towards the soundhole and sometimes slipping into it slightly.

does this mean i need to apply more pressure or should i perhaps be hooking it slightly more instead of just resting it flat on E???

use light tension strings

drill an extra hole in the bridge between the 5th & 6th string holes, tie a piece of string round your wrist, then thread it through the extra hole and tie it off.

That way you can't move your hand too close to the soundhole, and you will get a more flamenco sound playing near the bridge!

depends where you rest the thumb on the string. If you rest closer to the sound hole the string will naturally bend more, then if you are closer to the bridge.
