Picado-ish technique 

Hey mates! I've always wondered how the technique whereby it sounds like you're doing alternate down-up picking on one string (usually the high E string) is accomplished with fingers. You can see what I'm talking about here:



The guy playing along with Vicente does the technique I'm talking about near the end of the video.

Is he using very fast i-m-i-m just like picado? Or a-m-i-a-m-i? Or is he using i-m-i-m but with both up and down strokes (i.e. m down, i down, m up, i up, etc.) sort of like an i-m rasgueado with four strokes per cycle, but on one string with the adjacent string muted via the resting pulgar (which is the way I do this technique currently)?

first one is just tremolo, amiamiami, etc The mp3 sounds like rasgueado iai, on one string.
