Gerundino Fernandez: Biografia de un guitarrero. Paco Urrutia (sobrino), Editorial Universidad de Almería, ISBN 9788482408321, 2007. An interesting little book with many photos, of obvious interest to us aficionados of one of the greatest guitarreros of all. Sean

Hola Peter y Tomás A friend of mine was given a copy by a friend of his from Almería, so I had all the bibliographical details. Even so it is notoriously difficult to buy directly from these University Presses, so I went through a local bookshop. It arrived in about 3 weeks and cost 18 euros, which is expensive, but since, like Tomás, I bought my guitar from Gerundino after a night of drinking wine in his house and the price is irrelevant. Try a decent local bookshop with the details and if you have problems contact me and I can reorder from here. Suerte Sean

Hola Peter Glad you found it. What I like about the little books of local distribution is that they give an insight into what life was like for the flamencos. And usually it was horrible. With the enormous changes in Andaluz society it is little wonder that flamenco is changing beyond recognition. Another good one is the biography of Chato de a Isla, a great and underrated singer. But what a childhood: "Bueno, pues Concha, mi mare, tuvo veintecuatro hijos....y es que, unos con meses, y otros con un año o dos, se murieron casi tós mis hermanos. Y sólo quedamos cuatro, dos hembras y dos varones." This is the lifestyle which produced cante jondo: little wonder that it is being replaced by flamenquito Suerte Sean
