Nail Strength

Hey mates,

I was just wondering about all the stuff I read about nail-care. The thing is that for the past five years that I have been playing, I never broke any of my RH nails, nor have I even cracked or split any. So I was thinking to myself, is this normal? Do I have bionic nails and am not aware of it? I use a nail hardner called Mavala Scientifique, so is this like the BEST product available, and I happened to stumble across it, and thus it gave me invincible nails? I do not know. There is another possibility; I am not your basic guitar destroyer, i.e. I do not play very hard. As a matter of fact, my previous teacher (and my current one) both complain that I play too softly, and that my playing can barely be heard. But I think that I play with a decent amount of force (and produce quite good volume), and I do not need to play very hard to satisfy my playing needs. I practice a lot everyday (at a point, I used to do 5 to 7 hours a day, when I had just started), and I never had any nail trouble.

So the question is: Are my nails naturally super-strong? Or is it because I do not play very hard (like Edgar in the buleria he posted of the arts festival!!) that my nails do not break? I mean, literally, I have NEVER broken a nail in the past five years, but my teacher and some ex-players I knew used to have frequent nail-trouble. So let me know what you think.
