are condes really that bad?

though i will be buying a mid-range soon, i'm not really considering a conde hermanos. but all i ever hear are disparaging remarks about recently built condes.

are they really that bad? or is it just that they are so ubiquitous and have so much hype around them, that its almost a knee jerk reaction to dis them? or are they like the recent ramirez's, all hype based on an amazig history that the current guitars don't live up to?

just curious. though GSI now has A28s with pegs for 3K.

The people are always talking too much crap.
Conde makes very good instruments. And the guitars dont have to be builded by the big guys behind the labels to be as good as they are. If a guitar is builded in a factory in valencia from a no name guitar-constructor-pupil and its perfect.. FINE!! ´ would buy it. Also the most expensive condes builded by the masters could be worser than a student model builded in a secret factory. You just have to test the guitars and find a perfect one. The condes have a special sound which is different than the sound of other flamenco-guitars. Conde is played by most of the best players in spain. I had a student model for a while..and it was wonderfull! Now the guitar plays the son of a famous guitarist. So conde estudio is really good, too if you search for a good one.
The history of a label isnt important. I know a german guitarbuilder with no history and he builds so damn good flamenco guitars..as good as conde. Maybe for me better. hehe

Isn´t this exactly the problem? That you have to find the right one, that consistensy is lousy, that the difference between a good one and a bad one is very big.

These are typical problems with factory guitars, that they do not get any special atention, and thus everything comes out the way they are good or bad. If you make all your soundboards exactly 2,3mm thick in the center and so on, you´ll have some which are way to stiff, some which are fine and a some which are to soft....... And so on with all the components.

Besides that, a good Conde is a very nice guitar.

The estudio class guitars from Conde are built in a factory to their specs. And it could be argued that in a factory, consistency may very since part of being in a factory is to turn out a larger number of guitars and when that happens, one just cannot spend as much time on it. While these are relatively higher quality then some generic factory guitar, the name of Conde does add some premium to it. I have an A26 concert model built at the Felipe V address. I dont know if it was built by the sons of the nephews of the original Conde bros., but it most certainly had more attention to detail than the estudio and was built by someone that works there and must live to the Conde standard for excellent guitars.

My A26 is a beautiful Blanca with book-matched bear claw and has the french polish treatment. I love the sound it produces. When I play it right, it really punches and its a joy. It was expensive, but I wanted a Conde from Marid with that smell and one that plays really well. Could I or would I wait for a Devoe for about the same price? Well, I am, but that doesnt mean I wouldnt buy another or recommend a Conde to someone else.

In fact, I will definitely be going to Madrid next year to pick up a Conde at Felipe V as part of the experience. This is just my 2cents.

thanks for the responses, everyone.

yes i might have to go test drive those condes just to hear/feel that conde sound in person.

i just ran across my guitar (same model) in a store but the difference was pretty huge. it was a juan hernandez estudio and it was the same exact price as i had paid, but it didn't have the orange finish mine has so it was nice light blonde. the sound was dryer and snarlier and the basses were crisp. guitar was lighter in weight also.

mine has a fuller sound and the neck feels a bit better but the one in the store had interesting trade offs as far as the aggressive sound. i'm assuming that whether factory made or luthier- or hand-made, each guitar will be different.

this just confirms that i need to play more guitars to find that upgrade that will make me obsess even more about playing!

Nealf,

I agree, but I just want to add that I build 10 - 12 guitars a year

She is one of these guitars, that I think will be absolutely top class. It already sounds very good and is very balanced, and with this potential and a bit of time it´s going to sound like it looks.

And how much does a conde with this kind of wood cost. A Felipe V ? I cant remember if it´s 15000 or 18000 euros.
I´m not saying mine is equally good, but....
