mkhn -> RE: are condes really that bad? (Mar. 15 2006 22:35:25)

The estudio class guitars from Conde are built in a factory to their specs. And it could be argued that in a factory, consistency may very since part of being in a factory is to turn out a larger number of guitars and when that happens, one just cannot spend as much time on it. While these are relatively higher quality then some generic factory guitar, the name of Conde does add some premium to it. I have an A26 concert model built at the Felipe V address. I dont know if it was built by the sons of the nephews of the original Conde bros., but it most certainly had more attention to detail than the estudio and was built by someone that works there and must live to the Conde standard for excellent guitars. My A26 is a beautiful Blanca with book-matched bear claw and has the french polish treatment. I love the sound it produces. When I play it right, it really punches and its a joy. It was expensive, but I wanted a Conde from Marid with that smell and one that plays really well. Could I or would I wait for a Devoe for about the same price? Well, I am, but that doesnt mean I wouldnt buy another or recommend a Conde to someone else. In fact, I will definitely be going to Madrid next year to pick up a Conde at Felipe V as part of the experience. This is just my 2cents. -Mike
