Amir John Haddad

Hi Folks,
Just played through Amir's new CD "Pasando por Tabernas" for the first time.
Wow! This album is excellent!!
Some really fresh ideas there, nice clear melodic lines and fantastic playing.

There is a Buleria there "Querencia", which in my opinion is set to become a "classic" and everyone is going to be attempting it...(I definitely think ToddK is going to love this one).

This is a real "guitarist's" album.....very "guitarry" compositions if you know what I mean...

Well produced CD with great sound and good sleeve notes giving all the info that folk want to know.

Amir is absolutely a guitarist's guitarist.
At only 30 or so, this guy is bound to become one of the future greats!

You've got to get this one!

cheers

Ron

Ron,
where is the CD available from? Can't seem to see it on Flamenco World and Amazon.

Cheers,

James

Ron, my copy arrived today... tracked it down cheap on Ebay. first impressions are that its pretty good. Quite fresh and modern sounding, yet still fairly traditional (I think).

BUT... I am surprised that you recommended a CD by a Flamenco guitarist who wears lace-up leather trousers and has a pierced nose... will wonders never cease?!

Hi James,
It's certainly a very refeshing album, as you say, modern but never losing touch with the past. (Actually Rafael's album is similar).
I love this kind of style... Moraito and Emilio Maya do it too..along with a heap of others.
I met Amir a couple of years ago...he's a nice guy.
Very unassuming...but I could sense he was a passionate, thinking guy underneath.
As for the nose rings and weird style...well the guy is only 29 or something..
He grew up in a different era from me.
I've given up on judging folk by their looks...you'll nearly always be wrong.
But he plays Flamenco guitar just SO incredibly well!!
Also a helluva oud player...which is his main instrument.
A very talented guy and someone who is an example to everyone here of how a young German guy can go to Spain and become not only a Flamenco guitarist working in top clubs in Madrid, but a 100% authentic soloist matching the best of the Spanish players.

cheers

Ron

Maybe I should bring up that Ron has a well-documented infatuation with Amir Haddad, which you can read about on this site if search is working. Here in the states, the current term is "man-crush."

I can't see how you arrive at that conclusion Mike?
What I was amazed about was that only a few months before the Radio Tarifa concert in Aberdeen I had heard Amir play on the "Understanding Flamenco" CD and had been scouring the Net to find any more about him but came up with nothing much.
I really loved the guy's sound!!
I had thought that wouldn't it be great to be rich and be able to go to Spain and seek him out and get lessons!
Then on a grey, rainy evening while I was hanging around the venue waiting for the doors to open...who comes wandering up a cold, wet Aberdeen street but the guy himself!
Made me think how strange life/fate is..
Sure it was really exciting to meet the guy who played that stuff!
I was equally excited about meeting Paco Peña, Serranito, Juan Maya, Ramon de Algeciras and Rafael too!
These guys are guitar heros to me.
I suppose I'm just a big Groupie at heart LOL!...but who isn't?
You seemed quite thrilled about meeting Mr. Benson..yeah?
Although I know your real dream is to meet Esteban...
Well Mike, maybe it'll come true for you one day and you'll go all wobbly at the knees as you beg permission to kneel and touch the hem of his cloak.

cheers

Ron

Me too, definitely my favourite flavour of flamenco. I'll have to get this one.

Ebay you say, James? I can't see it (I assue you mean one of those ebay resellers selling it new)

Oh, come on Ron, you know I was just joking! What little I have heard of Radio Tarifa, I really liked it, but that was 5-6 years ago, I wonder if he was in the group at the time.

Whats that? Ron's got a crush on some guy with lots of body piercings and tight leather trousers?! I think I have the wrong forum... I was looking for the Flamenco forum (y'know, Flamenco: "twang, twang, takataka, twang")!

Jon, yes I got it on Ebay, and for a reasonable price too. If I remember rightly there was more than one copy on Ebay at the time. But I just did a quick search and couldn't find any, so I guess they come and go. Keep an eye out for it...
