RE: Question on Fandango Compas (in reply to Guest

ORIGINAL: rumbaking

Is it acceptable to leave out the 7th beat on a fandango de Huelva and finish the phrase with the normal F/E?

If by "leave out" you mean mark a golpe or hold the previous chord through that beat etc...then sure.

RE: Question on Fandango Compas (in reply to Guest

quote:

I think the Fandango rhythmn is a little more complex than it appears.... As I understand it the accents are different than the chord changes....I think accents are on 1,4,7, 10 and chord changes on 3, 7, 8, 9

Any clarification on all of this is appreciated.....

even simpler view....think only 2 chords, E and F. Correct the downbeat is 1,4,7,10, but only need to change harmony on 3 and 9. Using Am, G, and F is just a way to make an interesting phrase over the basic rhythmic form. In the por medio key you don't need really to do the Dm-C-Bb-A, it is often you just use the Bb the entire time.

Important to note after you get the compas strumming down, falseta phrases often start as 2 beat pick ups on either 5 or 11....and also when playing for cante you can accent those beats with a rasgueado too, it sort of "answers" the phrase of the melody.
