I have a C 411 III PP MicroMic condenser microphone pick-up by AKG (made in Austria). It sounds pretty good in live concert settings. I think I paid about USD 250 for it. That was quite a long time ago though... I also own a Schaller (Ref.-Nr. 723, Best.-Nr. 10/84) which I bought for cheaper (probably USD 50) a couple of years before I got the AKG one. That was in about 2003 maybe...

The AKG sounds better, obviously.

$100 or under sounds like the best option is just a Shure SM57 mic.

You can get cheaper bridge-saddle piezo pickups, but then you're stuck with that famous 'piezo quack' sound quality.
