Jewel

sorry but she kills me everytime...in the deepest places. Much as I love cante can't help to admit my shame, since I first heard her stuff. I avoided it for a long time, too painful, but revisit it on youtube. Sorry if anyone thinks she is cheese...she hits me hard for some reason. Even beats chonchi

The softer side of maestro Ricardo...

She's good probably because her performance is REAL. She has a very wide range vocally. What she's playing on the guitar is not so amazing... I guess what you enjoyed is the fact that she really conveys emotions that go authentically with what her lyrics are saying. Can't help to notice that she has that right upper canine tooth malaligned there.

All part of the authenticity of the performance, I guess (as well as that part where her voice goes a bit off when she's stretching a note with vibrato at one point near the middle).

Ole!

One nice thing about this forum is that nobody has made any wisecracks about these kinds of posts in the off-topic section. Good thing, too, because the performances always hold great significance for the poster.

Feel no shame Ricardo, she's got an amazing voice. She gets a wide range of textures by using her diaphragm to push out more or less air and by contracting her throat muscles for more or less grit (contraction may also push air through nasal cavity). Basic techniques that some people seem to avoid after receiving training.

So many details there that can never be expressed in noted music. How many ways can you say, "mmm"?

Nice one, Arash. These kinds of performances might be worth remembering the next time anyone feels nervous about performing for others. It's clear that both singers are concentrating on some kind of pleasure rather than on their surroundings.

RE: Jewel (in reply to Ricardo

guys do you notice that we always start to analyse everything and every musical detail and aspect of the music to find reasons why we like it instead of just enjoying it and let it crush us without too much "brain"?
i guess this is inevitable when you play an instrument seriously or you are somehow into music professioanlly. don't know if its bad or good, but sometimes i miss the times when i was an average listener with no idea (not that i have any idea now, but you know....)

Yes, but that's how flamenco is. The deeper you get the more you want to analyze and learn. Of course not all aficionados are like that, but by my experience the ones who actually sing or play guitar will often get excited over small details, usually just a few words in a line of verse or a strong and precise rasgueado, for example.

But I think I know what you mean. Maybe it could be compared to a conversation between two people where one of them is focusing on the other's grammar and pronunciation instead of the message.

I know Norman. I am excited and discuss about the smallest details too.

But somehow i think i am loosing something which i had when i didn't know anything about this stuff. Somehow feel like paying a small price? price is maybe some kind of careless, easygoing and uncritical kind of attitude while listening/watching to music.

Edit: now i see the part which you added to your post. yes, thats a good explanation.

Nah, she's not cheese, she's one of my all time favs - "Deep Water" from Spirit is memorable for me, though she seems to have something in her pants in this one:
