JM plays Kingston-Upon-Thames

Hi Guys,

As there seem to be so many JM fans here on the Foro I thought I'd take a look for myself and see what all the fuss is about.

He's playing in a theatre just down the river from me tonight so I'll head down and report back.

3rd best in the world eh? We'll see!

Well! If you've seen the DVD that accompanies his book then you've seen his show.

He seems to be a pleasant enough chap, banging out Andalucian flavoured guitar tunes. All very nice but perhaps that's the problem. It's just very nice. He's not the sort of player who's going to set your pants on fire. He's got a set of music and he play's it safe.

But the real problem with a solo guitar performance is that there's nothing visual about it. It's background music to dine to.

I still don't see where the venomous hatred expressed on the Foro comes from. If you like the sound of Spanish guitar music there really is very little not to like about him.

A solo guitar performance from a GOOD guitarist, ist very "visual" to me.
I could watch his hands for hours

Reading your review i thought you have given the answer yourself why people are not completely amazed by his stuff? Or you have low expectations from a show. Another point is, maybe its not the music itself but the mass perception of Juan, which is being one of the best guitrrists, which is just a sign of lack of knowledge (without judging tastes). But in the end nobody cares i think (like "hate" or something), coz his stuff is not that interesting.

lol. Think you hit the nail on the head.

Again maybe some solo guitar performances don't have to have visual excitement because there's plenty of buzz in the music.

Also, because it was so local it worked out OK. If I'd travelled half way across London to see him I wouldn't have felt it worth the effort.
