Help with Camera

Hello Guys and Gals,

Can anyone offer any advise on the purchase of a webcam or camcorder that offers good sound and picture so that I may start uploading my playing for critique?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Rain

I purchased this yesterday:

I'll try it out soon, and I'll let you know.

Hee Ramzi,
I have one...the picture quality is good, the sound quality is bad. Its good for skype, but not for recording guitar, it'll constantly clips.

Hey Rain,

Unless you want to hook up your camera to your PC/Mac for SKype/video connection of some type, I'd forget about these USB type cameras.

Many of the typical pocket digital cameras have video recording facilities these days with various setting for high quality or internet only use etc... The quality is generally more than good enough for YouTube. This way, you also have a pocket camera for holidays, nights out etc..

While you're thinking about your choices, set up a YouTube account. Then when you have videos you can just upload them to YouTube and post a link on the forum here.

Kozz: What do you mean by the above?

I mainly got it for the video. Will use my trusty CAD USB microphone for audio.

I use a relatively old Panasonic NV-GS180.

Theese Camcorders from Panasonic have a very good quality. It has a input jack for an external microphone, but I havent found one which I prefer to the one which is build in.

The only backdraw is that you have to live with DV tapes, but I dont care.

In general, most other camcorders have a very poor sound, wich is far from natural. They compress the sound a lot making the dryest flamenco guitar sound like a Stratocaster.

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions.

Im thinking about buying the Zoom Q3, heres a link for the product:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Q3zoom/

It seems that it is made for especially made for musicians. I will research the product further.

Thanx again,
Rain

like these

Kozz: the mic is NOT so bad. I mean, it's not like my USB mic, but it's much better than other webcam mics. I fiddled around with the settings, and you might want to un-check the option which says "remove background noise" since that would make the sound MUCH better, but with a hiss in the background (which can be easily edited out or just kept!).

I'll upload something soon...

Thanx sean.

I did some research on the web and found this review of the eyeball 2.0 on youtube and
the sound as well as the video is pretty bad.
See for yourself:

Mmmmm I see... I guess they're compromise solution.

I'm happy to compromise with the built in camera on my iMac but I did buy a decent microphone for recording.

The last pocket camera I bought, a Panasonic GF1, shoots great quality video and the sound isn't bad either.

Id imagine the Zoom will have better sound than video. I think good sound and 'ok' video would be better than the other way round.

I have one of those, it's fine for video uploads. If you want cd quality sound, maybe use an external condenser mic, but for learning purposes & commentary, it's excellent as is. And it's a one-step process. With a DV camcorder, you have a lot more fiddling to do, it's much clumsier.
