Esperanza Fernandez and Ricardo

Hey, so it went pretty well with Esperanza on Sunday, she sang Malagueña then we jumped into abandaloa compas and she sang 3 more verdiales type cantes with compas. Sorry I am not up on the differences between each one, but I recognized them all. Next she sang Alegria with Alegria de Cordoba in the middle and she had me slow it down and play sort of free or very loose compas, then jump back in to fast compas for the final alegria letra.

And finally some improvsed buleria. Actually that was the most challenging because when I was strumming hard, I could not hear her so well in the venue...it was a movie theater and we had no monitor. But it all came off well and she announced that even though we had only just met the day before, she felt like we had been working together a long time. It was a big honor for me and she was a great performer and great person! Here are some pics:

Thats cool Ricardo. Congratulations and you realy deserve it. Esperanza has a nice Gitano voice without being to much gitano.

If you come over and accompany her here in Spain, you can use my guitar

Congratulations! I'd like to hear some audio, too. Where was your HSL? Looks like a Media Luna to me.

I asked around and one of my friends did snag some footage. He was trying to do it secretly so he was a little nervous and did not let his Iphone roll the whole time. I spliced together some of the stuff he captured. Sounded pretty good from audience perspective, as I said before I couldn't hear her well at all so my eyes are glued to her lips. When she turned her head away from me I was just guessing. LOL. Normally I play a lot harder.

RE: Esperanza Fernandez and Ricardo (in reply to Ricardo

I don't want to criticize you Ricardo or anything, because I don't have as much experience as you do, but for a subtle thing that I noticed I would like to say:
at the beginning of the primera letra (00:41) there is something going on. I usually choose to make a silencio there, so not to play the 12 (and I think that's what she expected too). I instead do a golpe. these little silencios give the singing a bit of space. like in liviana for example, there are tons of these while accompanying.

Sorry if I'm being wrong. I definitely don't want this comment to end up making a second long treat like florian's.

really nice job, I love esperanza fernandes. we are all proud here I think

Great work Ricardo! Doing a show like that with minimal or no rehearsals would be very nerve racking. I imagine it would be virtually impossible to feel relaxed enough to live up to your own expectations and potential. You did great man! Thanks for sharing this video with us.

i agree with all that was said above, very proud of you Ricardo! even though it may not be absolutely perfect accompaniment in terms of decisions/selection of chords taken, its all due to the circumstances and the nerve wrecking situation you were in, and you did an amazing job!! OLE!!! at the end its the fun and energy that counts, thats what everyone gets and feels at the end.
