RE: TOP 5 BEST EVER FLAMENCO ALBUMS (in reply to antoniobrandao)
In random order
-Ramon Montoya's solo recording session from 1936 (?) -Nino Ricardo's Hispavox recording (Toques Flamencos De Guitarra) -En Vivo desde el Teatro Real by PDL -Sabicas Flamenco Puro -Tomatito Rosas del Amor
Note that these are for solo flamenco guitar which can probably get its own separate section.

If you live in the UK or Europe you can get a lot of this stuff on Amazon and its free shipping. There have been a lot of good answers here although nearly all guitar albums. For me the top 5 albums are the ones that you cant really omit from your flamenco collection. I'd say Tauromagia - Manolo Sanlucar PDL - Sirocco (or preferably the box set) Camaron + Tomatito - Flamenco vivo (live 1987) Vivencias imaginadas - Vicente Amigo Mi cante y una poema - Estrella Morente

I heard very often (also outside the foro) Tauromagia of M.Sanlucar as No.1. I know that album very good...but what makes it so exceptional ? Please tell me..I don´t get it.

I agree with Doit. Why is Tauromagia by Manolo San Lucar so much better than others?
Cheers,
Bill

Are you guys serious? We need to justify our "favorites" on a flamenco board with an explaination?
I would honestly go into detail for folks that were not already sort of biased against it. I think it has been discussed much in the past. I will not forget when I first had Tauromagio on my list of top5 on the old FT board 8 years ago and again folks were saying "whay do you like THAT ricardo, it is not even pure flamenco".
RE: TOP 5 BEST EVER FLAMENCO ALBUMS (in reply to JBASHORUN)
1. De mi Corazón al Aire - pure magic, this taranta, this soleá -> legendary 2. La Leyenda del Tiempo - Camarón (who doesn't know these Falsetas from Tomatito -> Viejo Mundo, Tangos de la sultana etc. ) 3. Paris 1987 - Camarón and Tomatito 4. Diapasión - Chicuelo 5. Orate - Diego del Morao
RE: TOP 5 BEST EVER FLAMENCO ALBUMS (in reply to antoniobrandao)
@Ricardo : No Maestro ... I'm not against that album or anything .. all what I'm saying is why is that album praised always by other members and credited more than other albums .. there must be some hidden elements or something I don't understand .
anyway back to the topic the top on my list at the moment are the following: 1.Jerónimo Maya - Jerónimo ( it is an unbeatable album ) 2.Jose Tanaka - Lluvia ( I really like his style ) 3.José Manuel León - Sirimusa ( very enjoyable ) 4.Rafael Cortes - Gitanos Del Agua ( Farkala ... (Vals Buleria) is super ) 5.Gino D'Auri - Flamenco Mystico ( so mysterious like if he knows he will pass away soon)

I can't tell, in any art form, what's best (or worst): I only know what I like. Here are 5 disks I''d take to the proverbial desert island, to help me remember what flamenco was really like--wonderful cante, supported by sympathetic, collaborative guitar, and maybe some dance, with knowing jaleo in the background, reminding one that it was/is a shared emotional experience......
(single disks only--no anthologies)
Danzas Flamencas: C: Manolita de Jerez, Rafael Romero T: thought to be Miguel Garcia B: Jose Greco. A 1954 Decca LP.
Festival Gitana: C: Enrique Montoya, Domingo Alvarado T: Sabicas, Diego Castellon, Mario Escudero. Late 1950s Elektra LP.
Early Cante Flamenco: C: Antonio Mairena, Tomas Pavon, Pastora Pavon, Pepe Pinto, Manolo Caracol, Manuel Vallejo T: Paco Aguilera, Melchor de Marchena, Nino Ricardo. 1990 Arhoolie CD.
Cante Gitano: C: Jose de la Tomasa, Maria la Burra, Maria Solea T: Paco del Gastor, Juan del Gastor. 1989 Nimbus CD.
Collecion Nuestro Flamenco 2: C: Manolo Caracol, w. T: Melchor de Marchena, C: Perrate de Utrera w. T: Diego del Gastor, Pedro Pena. 2004 RTVE CD.
