ketchup song

Apoligize for this utterly trivial **** and don't ask my how I got the info ... but I did.

I heard the ketchup song is sung by two sisters, and the name "KETCHUP song" is referring to their father......well, uhm...Tomatito.

Is this true ?

You all choose to neglect me.
But that's allright.

I'll punish you with a link that should clarify things a bit.
Does anybody recognize them ?

Some years ago I also heard that Las Ketchup are daughters of Tomatito and I was very surprised. But many information on the internet confirm this, like these articles:

http://homepage.mac.com/sergiovf/Music/lasketchup.html
http://www.lycos.com/info/las-ketchup.html

I found out that when you count from the beginning of the theme (starting on the 'he',) till the end of the line it is 12 beats, just like in flamenco, so I thought it was the influence of flamenco. But maybe it's just my imagination and I'm all wrong!

Wow:

"Who are "Las Ketchup" ?They are: Lola, Lucía and Pilar and they are Tomate's daughters. Tomatito, as he is fondly known in Flamenco circles was the lead guitar for El Camarón, one of the great Cante Hondo voices of Spain. His real name is Juan Munoz. "

So it's true ?

This song was also a hit in the UK a few years back and there were questions on the Forum about them being Tomatito's daughters.

Actually they are the daughters of a Flamenco guitarist Juan Muñoz, known as "El Tomate", who is not famous and not related to Tomatito (José Fernández Torres).

cheers,

Ron

Yup! It's true. I saw some of them at their father's place in Almeria. Whatever, Tomatito's daughters are beautiful too.

Hi Grisha,
I'm confused....Do you mean they ARE Tomatito's daughters or ARE NOT Tomatito's daughters?

I take it you mean you visited Tomatito in Almeria?

Please put us out of our misery!

cheers,

Ron

Your absolutely right Ron. A few years ago, when this song came out, I ask a friend of mine who works for Tomatito's managment company and she told me the same thing. They are not related to THE Tomatito.

Speaking of actual successful collaborations of flamencos in pop, here is Vicente Amigo playing on a Spanish Reggaeton track of David Bisbal:

(go to 2:53)

It's one of his more extreme forays in to pop. There are much more enjoyable examples, I think. I wonder if Universal Music talked him in to it, or he just did it for the money, or he genuinely likes that music, who knows. Meanwhile, I think David Bisbal actually sings flamenco, too, and they could be friends. Nevertheless, Vicente Amigo is totally ripping on the track as usual and it works with the song... fun to see!

Sorry, I was confused myself. I did see Tomatito's daughters at Tomatito's place. Someone told me that same day that they are members of las Ketchup. To be honest, I never heard of las Ketchup before, so I thought that the girls I saw were band members cause they are extremely beautiful. Well, I found out yesterday that they are not las Ketchup... oh well.
