I played with both feet on the ground in the traditional style for 40 years. I still play that way if I play for a dancer. It gives me more freedom of movement. However, as I got older, I find it more comfortable to put my RIGHT foot up on my footstool.

I saw that in his later days, Manolo Sanlucar played with his right foot up. When I tried it, I found it very natural and comfortable for me personally. I had a fancy hand engraved wood footstool made as a result.

I also note that Sabicas, in his later years, played with his left foot up high on a footstool. I guess it is more comfortable for us over 65 years old, to use the footstool.
