Pedro Perez of Pedro de Miguel guitars..
A friend of mine had told me that luthier Pedro Pérez of Pedro de Miguel died November 2nd after a long illness. He was only 50 years old. I met him while I was in Madrid a few years ago.

That is sad news. My first flamenco guitar was a blanca that he built on his porch with wood from the Ramirez shop. The label said Pedro Perez as it was long before Pedro de Miguel.......Here is an early promo photo with the guitar.

Nice to see you here Jason...wow do you still have that blanca? I don't remember you playing that guitar when I took lessons with you. I met him in 04 and I tried out a few great blancas in his shop at the time. There were two blancas that were made for Tomate (one I'm holding in the pic with Pedro).

That is so incredibly sad - such a loss. I bought my Pedro de Miguel negra about 18 months ago - on the recommedndation of Tom from la falseta.
The guitar is just perfect - you keep searching for that magic guitar, the one with the dream sound and feel that's perfect for you. I've played Condes, Reyes and all sorts of other guitars since acquiring my Negra, but for me Perdo really just nailed it. I found my ideal guitar for life. It just keeps improving - it's really opening up now and sounds wonderful, regardless of strings or my playing.
I feel quite honoured to be playing one of his instruments and truly sad that the flamenco world has lost such a fine luthier.

Hi Don,
No I don't have it anymore. I was probably playing Montalvo guitars back when you studied with me. I have seen some great guitars of his over the years. Adam was playing one when I first met him.

Wow! This is news to me. Is this accurate information? I'm personal friends with both of them. I have bought quite a few guitars from them and I can tell you that both Pedro and Miguel are stand up guys.
I'll have to call Miguel to make sure. If so... RIP. He was a great man.

Sure enough. It is a tradedy in the flamenco world. I got confirmation from Miguel from Pedro de Miguel and Juan Estrada (head of Paco de Lucia Gestion). It was a tumor in his head. RIP.
