just say hello

Hi guys.

I just want to say hello, for who's interested.

I'm still occupied more and more with brass arranging. Some party/marching band asked me to write for them in a swing style but with the traditional marching-band instrument setup. So it's my task to let the "john sousa" marching style somehow melt together with the quincy jones bigband style.

I'm getting better and better in reading transposed keys ( Eb,F and Bb )
and learning/reading/listening much about the functions and voicings of the different instruments.

Furthermore: I built 10 cajons last week for the birthday party of my son ( 9).
We did a little workshop and put it on cd. The children loved it and were very focused for 45 minutes.

And I'm going to play together with an old friend ( drumteacher ) who just started to play cajon.

So, I'm still alive and kicking.

Hi koella,

I guessed you were doing a lot with brass band music because you had just been really successful with your first arrangement a few months ago.

10 cajon in one week!! That's a lot..... Percussion is great for kids, because they are learning rhythm and it's a real community activity too. I first took my daughter to a samba rehearsal when she was 6, and she played in a performance. I'll see if I can find a picture of her, she was so cute.

Anyway keep in touch - don't forget guitar!!

Here´s a picture.
Sorry for the indians, but..hey. It was a children´s party.

And btw. Ailsa. I don´t want to boast or anything. But it only took me 2 and a half days . Except for the indians, which the children had to do themselves.

Hi Koella, I liked reading your posts in the past and haven't seen more than one post from you in the past few months. It's great that you checked in and I'm glad you are doing well.

BTW I really enjoyed the Tarantas Fantasy you performed and posted many months ago.

Mmmm...yes, that too. Forgot to mention that.
I felt one of those antique worldwar I machineguns that keeps firing even when it has run out of ammo.

So much love. All those amigo's. I feel all warm inside.
hmmm...
Of course I know about the the indians, and how you wiped them out.
They look kind of silly though, on the front of a cajon.

Hi Huub

So you´re into brass stuff. Thats great and a bit weird to (weird is a positive word for me. Stravinsky made a great piano concert with only winds. Very percussive and weird)

Keep contact and play that Gerundino.

RE: just say hello (in reply to koella

Hi Anders.

That gerundino has a crack from the right side till the tap plate. It's in it's case now, and I don't have the guts to look at it. I called the luthier already though. He said it shouldn't be a problem to repair it.

Of course it's my own fault. I saw humidity decrease to 40 and thought this big mama would stand it. But alas. I'm condamned to my cheap cedartop sanchis now.

Btw. the brass arranging is not at all strawinsky-llike. It's about adapting excisting ( pop )music for all kinds of brass ensembles.
