HI Folks Man its been quite in hear for a while so I'd thought I'd just say hi and tell you all fine folks what's new. I've started two new projects one with a jazz nylon player from granada who has some fine compositions. The other is most;y rumba flamnca band with singer (ulises) cajon and now double bass, who I've yet to meet this friday, and me on guitar. It's all pretty early stages I'm already looking for gigs as I find the pressure of foirthcoming gigs is the only thing that realy provides the motivation for practice. Can anyone recommed a picup system for my flamenco guitar and I'll need to be getting an amp too (my friend recomended the roland A30 that has a nice warm sound) so any suggestions greatly received. Ive heard great things about the LR Baggs system... supposedly good volume and no feedback. Take what Sean says witha grain of salt. Everyone knows true flamencos are horrible at technology.
If you want to be loud this will have feedback problems.
Maybe Kate's partner, Harold has some gems on miking up versus pickups re: PAs? Any external mics can feedback horribly, if placed wrong or the performer moves around too much. Miking a band is very different from a solo performer.
Acoustic instruments are reknowned for feedback with a pickup - that's why hardcore metal electric players favour solid bodies with humbuckers (like the Gibson SG) over semi acoustics, or hollow bodies like Les Paul.
Unless one wants it of course and is adept with a Gibson Brydland like Ned Nugent. Or walking in front of the stack with a single coil Strat, but I digress. Ahh, those good old days
Thanks for the advise. I've even thought of buying a cheap guitsr with a built in pickup rather than cutting my beloved sanche. But think the best restults will come with a mixture of aproaches. I'm now looking for a condesor mic and come kind of pick up. The pick up give volume the mic tone and golpes. I'm just hardly heard when I play with a cajon banging away and a singer oh and a pub full of noisy ppl. I'll let you know who it goes fergus

Yes there is a big problem with miking up a flamenco guitar, as the mike also picks up the singer, the cajon and the crowd and of course you cannot moev around freely. I've been trying to get Harold to write up a bit about his techniques for live sound for my webpage or to post here as there are quite a few questions about pick-ups, but fat chance, he's always too busy, especially now the studio is fully booked most of the time.
When he first started doing live sound for flamenco guitarrists he developed a pick-up which was perfect, no cutting up of guitar necessary. One of the most important aspects was the cost as there are some very expensive pick-ups out there, way beyond the reach of most flamencos. So far all the prototypes have worked well and it is our intention to have a few hundred made up, we have all the components already but just lack time to actually put them together. They are being used not only on flamenco guitar but also violin and cello. I dont suppose it will make us rich but it will make a lot of acoustic musicians very happy.

Yes I already just thrash the guitar to make it heard. So it ends up like thrash flamenco. The pick-up sounds interesting that I would like to know more about!
