What's your favorite CD right now?

Mine is Santiago Lara's 'El Sendero de lo Imposible. If you don't have this one yet, GET IT!

Oddly enough I was gonna reply with the same album before I saw it was your favorite

Amazing stuff. I'm learning the soleá at the moment - so many wonderful ideas and melodies to swipe...

The Solea is very nice. The whole album great. I'm really getting into this guy.

I'm also listening to Chicuelo's new one, 'Diapason'. Another must have.

Sorry TA I a was being obscure again but I thought that the liner notes might explain that a Diapazon is an extra course tuned lower than the six courses (paired strings) on a lute.

My lute at college only had one diapazon but I believe that they could have quite a few.

Maybe it is a reference to altered tuninings ?

The rennaissance lute customerily has open strings corresponding to Rondena tuning with capo third fret.

Yeah, Lara's is great! The buleria, the solea, all of it...I was out last night and had the zapateo in my head the whole time I picked it up a couple of months ago and didn't listen much but I rediscovered it this week, awesome. I'll try to get my hands on Diapason! But in the meantime, I've discovered an absolute gem in Manolo Sanlucar's Medea - put this man near a guitar and I'll be happy, but put him near an orchestra too and there's nothing more I need

Sanlucar's Medea is a masterpiece IMO.

From Lara's CD, the Taranta is killer!

Mozart's Requiem in D-minor

can't get enough of it...so much energy, it makes me depressed, but i kind of like it..
you can feel death and dignity all over the piece, from start till end.

Vivire, Camaron de la Isla

It may be old, but he is accompanied by Paco de Lucia & Tomatito, worth it for the title track alone.

Yeap I keep a copy of that in the car. Also spent today driving to Almería to meet up with Ailsa and Dave and listed to Fernanda and Bernarda de Utrera from the 60's with Marote playing. Great music and a great paella and we even went paddling. Will send photo with Ailsa's permission when she's back from her Spanish trip.

I recently purchased and have been enjoying Rubichi's "Luna de Calabozo", with Antonio Jero accompanying. This is the sort of record that usually ends up being the most satisfying for me over the long haul: straight-up, no-nonsense cante/guitar. There's not an ounce of fat on this sucker. I'm listening to some samples of that Santiago Lara on flamenco-world and it sounds pretty good to me.

Am enjoying Santiago Lara's album. Also enjoying Jeronimo Maya's debut.

Favourite non-flamenco CD at the moment is In Rainbows by Radiohead. A truly great record.

Learn some mexican, since you like "la guitarra" and all!

Even though he only wrote like 10% of it...still pretty good.

Right now, my friends who play rumba locally, Duende Camaron, just put out a new CD I am really digging right now.

Yeah I am so lazy and disrespectful. All those hours wasted practicing, studying, learning to read music and searching for interesting players in all styles when all I really need is some schoolboy Spanish and I will instantly be more flamenco.

When I was seeing my Columbian girlfriend Sandra she would speak to her friends in my company in Spanish, although I didn't join in was surprised to notice that my nails grew stronger and thicker.

no all you need is to actually love flamenco to get excited by it, jump up and down with excitement when you find a album you like

you took this oportunity to once again proove how much you know rather then just answering the simple question

wanna be more flamenco , find a way to love it beyond needing to proove to anyone anything.

its not rocket science, its flamenco, came from gipsyes who couldnt read or write

you wont be more flamenco using your brain, you will be more flamenco using your heart.

Sorry Florian but apparently I have failed to prove to you how much I love flamenco. I was not aware that this was my prime responsibility as a member but I will certainly bear it in mind.

As for my other failure in providing my favourite CD at the moment well that is simple, it changes so quickly. The recording that I admire the most over the long haul must be Cameron de la Isla con Paco de Lucia. I have also been consistantly blown away by the intensity of Paco Pena's recording of his toques flamenco book.

I genuinely thought that this Diapason may have been a reference to the lute, the Alain Faucher link to his discussion on altered tunings made referenco to Chicuelo's innovations, it seemed a reasonable assumption. The use of Diapasons on lute was their solution to expanding the bass register. I explained myself as clearly as I could in my second post because I was embarrassed that I had been obscure originally.

But well done for getting on the band wagon first, make sure you make plenty of room for others. I am sure you will feel nice and warm and supported by the weight of reactionary wrath. Spare a thought for me though, even though I have so obviously commited some heinous crimes of unorthodoxy against you all. And you in particular for whom I have obviously never offered anything of any worth.

PS I like the way you separate your empty platitudes with blank lines, it's like really deep man.

Calm yourself, kids!!

Isn't the name of the album Diapasion, with an "i" in the middle? I don't have it but I just looked online...is it maybe a pun to get "passion" into the "diapason", or something different?

Good eye ramparts. I totally missed the 'i' in the word. Well that changes everything. What does it mean?
