I’ve been viewing posts for about eight months now and this site has been a great resource. I started playing guitar in the early 1980’s and after learning all the basics on electric and steel string acoustic decided to switch to flamenco. Problem was I lived in a rural area near Pittsburgh, PA and was stuck playing a classical guitar. I spent a year and a half practicing and experimenting. I would listen to Carlos Montoya albums and after looking at the pictures on the album covers I would attempt to develop right hand techniques. I knew about rasguaedo and managed to develop a fluid tremolo on my own, but it was p-q-a-m-i and not flamenco tremolo p-i-a-m-i. Not having anyone to show me how to execute and develop flamenco technique was frustrating and I quit playing over 20 years ago.
I found this site on an internet search and purchased a few instructional DVD’s. I’ve enjoyed all the information presented on this site as well as a few others. All the performance videos on youtube have been great, too. I even bought a flamenco guitar on Ebay with the help of Anders Eliasson (thanks Anders!)
I wish I had access to this information when I first started out. It would have made a world of difference. Flamenco has a lot more depth than I previously realized and it has taken some time for me to read and to absorb information about the traditions, palos, etc.
There were several times in the past few months that I thought I could have contributed something and will do so in the future. I’ve benefited from many of the more basic posts and really didn’t want to trouble anyone with questions that had already been answered in other posts.
I just wanted to thank everyone here for sharing their expertise; it’s opened my eyes to the unique musical world of flamenco.

Welcome John. It seems there are quite a few of us who dabbled in Flamenoc years ago and gave up for lack of resources/information/teachers. I'm sure you'll continue to find the forum as helpful as I do. Just don't spend too much time hanging round here - get back to your room and PRACTISE. One day I'll take my own advice. Val

I live about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh, and I agree that it is hard finding any info on flamenco in this area. Not much of a flamenco scene here... This foro has helped me a lot also, and agree with you 100%.

Hi Randy, I was hoping the Steelers would win too. They went from bad to worse in week. Oh well, there’s always next year. Are you near Greensburg? I’m on the east side of Pgh, too.
