OUCH
I had a very short accompanyment part on public TV recently, thank God I wasn't asked to talk. I would NEVER talk on live TV. A wrong note okay, but imagine all the wrong things you can say when you're nervous?
The only stupid thing here was her giving it another shot making it worse. I would have made a written statement for the papers or something.

Oh guys you are so hard on the poor girl. I mean, she seems nice, she's pretty and slim. Isn't that enough?
I used to work with a really amazing doctor. He was smart and innovative and helped many patients. But he felt this gave him the right to speak to colleagues like they were dimwits. (Fortunately not me - I wasn't even senior enough to be visible ). They used to get pretty cross, but I always thought well maybe it's not possible to be a brilliant surgeon and a decent human being. You can't excel at everything.
RE: God bless America!! Ha! Ha! (in reply to Ailsa)
Okay given she's probably not one of the most intelligent. I saw one pageant where a girl actually said "I've, like, been to Spain and, like, America is the best country in the world". THAT is stupid.
This seemed more like just confused nonsense, like she'd been up all night memorizing key phrases, was tired, nervous (maybe very hungry ) and mixed them up.
Give dumb people a break. Intelligent people in history have done much worse

Okay so I lied. The host asked if I enjoy cooking and I said "No, I enjoy eating more than cooking". You could imagine that evening my wife was waiting at home with the frying pan ready to swing it at me
Perfect example, this is exactly what I mean

Oh dear Bash, that is a very sad response. I think that men like to put women down because we have such an unfair advantage. In case you don't know what I'm referring to, the words 'multiple' and 'orgasm' spring to mind.

keep their mouths closed. (except when specifically requested to open them! )
Are you accustomed to that level of obedience Bash? Personally I prefer to be the one deciding what my mouth is doing.

Just kidding Ailsa... I DO like vocal women (as long as they're not nagging me!). I have been known to talk complete rubbish myself on occasion, so I'm quite willing to overlook Miss South Carolina's apparent lack of coherence. She is rather attractive, after all.
I was gonna comment on obedience, but since you're into psychology you'd probably psychoanalyse me, and I'm fearful of what you might have to say about my psyche!

Well, at least the toilets were always OK.
Maybe Ailsa can psychoanalyze this...
When I was on the "Costa del Sol Expreso" from Madrid to Cordoba in my late teens, there were no seats on the train, so I had to kip down in the horizontal body-filled corridor for 12 hours outside the toilet using my suitcase as a pillow, with folk stepping over me to get in. During the night I felt the need myself and stepping into the smelly cubicle, I was confronted with a bog pan with no seat, absolutely filled to the brim with what I shall simply call a thick brown mixture of solid and liquid effluent which was slopping back and forth in sympathy with the movement of the train.
Since then, every time I have a nightmare it has always included overflowing bogs.
Is this "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder"?
I didn't have a particularly gentile or sheltered upbringing myself, being brought up in the East-end of Glasgow and since then have witnessed pretty rough stuff travelling through some African and South American countries.
Why does this sh*t stick??
cheers,
Ron

Oh come on guys.... poor girl was just nervous. Personally I think she stands a good chance of being elected first female president!! These rather unfortunate individuals on the other hand think that a warehouse is where you go to get laid on friday night.
However, at least the interlectually challenged members of American society appear generally friendly, dress attractively and know how to smile. Just take a look at these British paradigms of miserable ignorence.

The problem in the US isn't the people, but the system. The German system is much more difficult than the US system, but more challenging so that I strove more and it didn't seem more difficult. Just better.
And there's a difference between stupidity and ignorance. It's not what exactly is taught, but that it's taught to teach yourself and take an interest in the world around you.
One thing I noticed is when a US American meets somebody from another country, they're curious as hell. Ask question after question. Silly questions maybe, but at least they're curious! My father and I have long long discussions about the differences between Europe and the US, but he's never once been outside of the US besides to Canada. Never interested him.
I'm sure all the US Americans on here are the better educated ones. Taking an interest in flamenco means wanting to understand a foreign culture. Not even taught in school, still you know where Spain and it's regions are on the map! That's what I mean.

I hope none of the American fellow member take this the bad way, but I estimate that 50% of Americans are dumb. Obviously that doesn't include the wonderful and super-smart American friends I've made here (ie don't kick me out of the forum )
I base this on a similar experience to this thread. I moved to the States when I was 15 coming from a third world country. I was SURPRISED to witness people's stupidity all through high school. High School was so hard in Argentina; they even said that college was easier. And then I go to high school in the US where I literally slept through classes and got straight As... Even college in the US I consider fairly "easy", while other fellow students consider it hard. I tell people that I am from Argentina and 90% of them have no idea where it is. Most of them think it's in Europe or Asia...
Plus, one big factor in my theory is that GEORGE BUSH WON THE ELECTIONS. That right there is proof enough for me, lol.
Again, no offense to anyone here because I know that everyone I talk to in the foro is fairly intelligent. I mean, if you got into flamenco you can't be dumb. That's for sure.
Dude, that is so weak. No offense, but half of you are Dumb? What are you doing in the US if you think half of us are so dumb? If you really think you are so much smarter maybe you should go home and fix your country instead of coming here and putting Americans down. And since you consider yourself so smart and interest in flamenco a sign of brains(that is funny), you must play the hell out of the guitar!
Who do you think created the opportunities you are taking advantage of right now? Dumb people? 50% of Amercians are dumb by your calculation? You must have amazing mathematical abilities. Frankly, your statement makes me question your IQ, in spite of your grades. You might want to look up the meaning of the word "tact". You need some.
I know that our current administration has created a lot of animosity in the world, but we are a large country with many opinions, many faults, and many accomplishments. Look at our history with open eyes when judging us, and if you still find us wanting, then before throwing insults, consider the state of your country. And while your here, you might want to try to contribute something other than smugness. No, I was not offended......................................much.
