Every time I login I have to go to my profile and tick the "Don't Show member's Avatar in posts" check box, since this forum for one or another reason can't save your choice.
However sometimes I'm a bit lazy and try to read without disabling avatars, just to disable it a couple of minutes later when I get fed up.
What's the purpose of avatars anyway?
When I was a kid and played cowboy-indian with other kids, I used to say I'm Smith (from Smith and Jones TV series) or if Smith was already taken I would say I'm Manolo (from High Chaparral).
I see some members have Paco's or other famous people's picture as avatar. Is this the same thing as "I'm Paco" or does it serve other goals? Every single time you are reading member X' message Tomatito's picture is shown (no Tom I'm not talking about you ). It feels as if Tomatito is the poster.
Some other members have the killer animated avatars. Honestly they are as distracting as flashing internet ads on a heavily ad-supported website.
I mean a picture or animation is nice to see a few times, but not 40 times daily
I personally like the avatars, esp the avatars that are pictures of the actual member. One of my faves is Simon's new avatar where he's doing palmas. Manzmann's is also pretty cool - looks like he's blowing the smoke after taking a big drag from a hooka.
I guess it's sort of a display of allegiance or admiration. Kind of like wearing a cubs or sox jersey in chicago....except you can't get mugged on the internet for wearing an ottmar liebert avatar....yet!
Everytime i see a video of Ricardo i think "Hey, that's not the guy, he's supposed to look just like Gerardo, who's this longhaired youngster? He's good!!"
The Avatars are just a way of personalising your profile. I was thinkin of changing mine but maybe I'll keep it after the samwise seal of approval! I think its a good way of putting ya stamp on things. gives each of your posts a bit of personalit,y whether its a pic of yourself or someone else. And I dont think its as strict rules as the cowboys and indians thing "You cant be Billie the kid cause I'm gonna be him" I've seen a few peeps with paco avatars. Come to think of it, I originally wanted to have a nunez pic for my avatar but then thought I dont wanna step on ricardos toes, Nunez is taken. so maybe it is or should be the same rules.
It can be confusing... I always thought Tom Nuñez looked like Tom Atito... But then my guitar really does sound like my avatar looks (when it's me playing it)
hey flo, I can see the second pic of yours is clearly a mock up but that first one looks real!! Its not vicente is it? it looks like some spanish porno star.
I think the first one is real, though nationality unnamed, and no, not Vicente. But the mockup really is making me a bit queasy now.... I'm gonna have to avert my eyes. Fortunately there are enough posts now that the pic doesn't feature on my screen. Phew, what a relief......
