Strings...they are over rated. I don't use strings.

Yeah, me neither. Too expensive. Fishing line works just fine.

RE: Strings, Tension, type, and what... (in reply to Anders Eliasson

In the past year I have had not one but two different occasions where a Labella
snapped on my guitar, while the guitar was in the case. I have not had this
happen with any other strings. Both times it was with medium, black's, and it
was the B string. The last occasion was last week, and it popped right over the
soundhole.

Two different guitars as well, once on each.

Never had any other strings do this ... Guess my guitars don't like Labella's.

I had the same happen. LaBellas snapped several times and I never had any other brand snap.

That's why I stopped buying them and here I read that threy are pretty good. Maybe it was just my guitar!?

Maybe La bellas don't like your guitar.

Same happened to me with a Batch of Savarez (D string, and E string an other time), and D Addario (D string). When you buy the same brand at the same store that sometimes happens, sometimes it is climate/humidity, sometimes just bad luck. I met a guy recently who had the same set of strings on his guitar for the last FIFTEEN YEARS. They sounded great!

My 72 year old Dad has an old classical, that he keeps at his cottage that has
been around for almost 50 years. He said he has never changed the strings on
it. It doesn't sound very good though ... :)

He actually got interested in guitars this past year, and bought a new Larrivee.
He thought the guitar sounded dead, so he sent it back. I asked if he changed
strings, and he said that's the same thing the guitar shop asked. His reply was
what for? They aren't broken ...

Lucky for me though, it was just the sellingn opportunity I needed to sell him my old Martin. :)

That's a true story.

RE: Strings, Tension, type, and what... (in reply to Ricardo

I like to use practice strings, which are heavier gauge strings than I would use if I wanted to perform, in order to build strength and maintain it, otherwise I don't really care, because they are practice strings, and they are for practice and nobody is going to care. I don't usually over spend on practice strings, they are slower, than performance strings, and more sluggish, but it is a good practice to do it that way. Sometimes I feel like it's unfair to have to do that but it is good for my hands, and it builds a good attack.

as the time passes , playing more ofter and thinkin to preserve the wood , im thinkin to drop the string tension , i play with medium high..

So im thinkin to give a try to medium low , never try this tension , only normal/medium high.

in theory it will good for my arms/shoulders and for the guitar , this kind of tension will help also to play with more confort? do i will get more difficult in apllying some flamenco tecniques ? sometimes have to apply more strength to ear louder?

whats your experience with that?

thanks

I am sorry, do you mean Knobloch flamenco strings? Savarez new, do you mean the new cristal nylon? And Augustine sugar, I have no idea. Augustine has only trebles in classic, imperial, regal and paragon (which are fluorocarbon), and basses black (low tension), red (normal), blue (hard) etc.

Sugar is an Aquila strings thing, an Italian string maker company.

Knobloch flamenco strings are nice and the basses last a long time. If you live in Europe you can find them at a more reasonable price. Their black luna trebles sound a bit as they have no high frequencies. But they could also be good if someone has a guitar that sounds too bright maybe.

I also play medium tension strings, as with harder tension I tend to get tired and also make ten times more mistakes, so much that most of my notes are not the right ones

thanks that was the kind of feed. that i was lookin.

yes i used Kno. Actives ns medium high , and now Actives Qz (i made a mistake when order...)

Qz info (and i agree with them)

Features:
Lyrical trebles sweeten the bright basses
Brilliant, Clear and Mellow

ns info

Features:
Sonorous trebles darken the brilliant basses
Brilliant, Clear and Muted

I dont agree in all , as far i can recall the ns are more mellow and brilliant trebles as Sonorous trebles
The qz i think they are more balanced.
both are great to "vicente amigo" style , they have very nice touch , Tone, durabillity and the oxidation is far to appear.

I was lookin for something more dry/risp, typical, with nice touch and of course that sounds great.

Tried in the past the "tomatito" (didnt like) the Luthier equal to Paco (i guess) and didnt like , they were soulless cheap touch and sound.
Savarez Carte rouge didnt liked sound very very cheap, The crystal were ok but the erosion appear very fast.
In the past i used a lot daddario Ej45 , now the kno. lasts more and more quality overall , never tried the kno Erithacus and Leos

You re right , its Aquila Sugar , and Savarez cantiga Premium that i was talking
